Hi all, Does anyone know anything about a D. A. HOCH who lived in 1935 in Lemoyne? I also have a record of him being a principal in Wormleysburg and played a saxophone......... I and some HOCH cousins are trying to figure out where he fits in.............any and all help is greatly appreciated! I do not know what his first name is and would love to find out and what line he is from........... Thanks so much! Sharon Frank in Fl. sharon1@cfl.rr.com
Actually, You may want to check Maryland, because Littlestown is less than 2 miles from the Mason/Dixon line, which did not exist in 1776. I have found many ancestors that lived in PA but are buried in MD. I have spent several hours at the Adams County Historical Society and records go back to Lancaster County (the mother county, not Cumberland County). Rita is correct about Littlestown and Adams County. However, since neither of the above existed in 1776, you should probably check the Franklin County area, which was in Cumberland County until 1784. Bob, Thank you so very much. I was able to find it on the map, but I guess I'll wait a while to travel out that way. The snow's so bad that when I throw the cat out he comes flying back to the door like he's on a bungee cord. I found several lists of communicants and others in the book, "Churches Between the Mountains". This has some very early information on that Phoutz Valley congregation. I found a FRANCK/FRANK I was looking for but I am still searching for a marriage record between John PHOUTS/FOUTS and Susanna FRANCK/FRONK sometime in the 1840's. George, father of John m Elizabeth Eckert. IF George is the George in my line, he is likely the son of John Christian Simons, who also wound up in Tyrone Twp, later Landisburg when it was incorporated (abt 1820). So IF this is the same Simons family, then you might also look for related Eckerts in Landisburg area. I am interested because I have a Simons further back in another line that I am wondering if might connect to these Simons. If true, it would suggest a Simons track coming from Colebrook, thru Albany, Ulster then south into Dauphin/Lancaster and finally into the Landisburg area where they were during most of the 1800s. Family legend has my later Simons as charter members of Landisburg area DAR (yet TBD). The father of my Geo Sr, (whether or not John Christian) would likely have been born around the time of the Am Rev... Realize this is about SIMONS...but if families migrated together, these details might be clues for places to look... Jackie

Hi, Did George or John mar Elizabeth Eckert? Do you have any dates? Our Sebastian was born Apr.1806. He mar Elizabeth Funk abt 1825. On their son's death cert. it says Sebastian and Elizabeth were from Middletown. Their spelling was sometimes off back then so it could be Middleton, Cumberland Co. I am looking in both areas. Sebastians sons are Levi, John, Jacob, Solomon, David. Elizabeth is a possibility for being Sebastians sister. I will keep a look out for ? Simons. Thanks, Dru

In the process of tracing Simons, I have come across a John Simmons in Hogestown in the 1886 Hy of Cumberland and Adams Cty. Since my Simons were in Landisburg/Tyrone Cty (19 miles away) during the early 1800s, I am interested in the following entry, which will explain the ECKERT connection. "JOHN SIMMONS, farmer, P.O. Hogestown. The Simmons family originated in Germany, and immigrated to this country at an early date. George Simmons, a farmer by occupation and the father of John was born near the line of Dauphin and Lebanon counties, Penn. He married Miss Elizabeth Eckert, daughter of John Eckert, of the same locality. To them were born six children: Catherine, John, Jacob, George, Samuel and Elizabeth. About 1824, the father moved to and settled in this county. He was a Republican in political opinions, a hardworking and upright man. John Simmons, our subject was brought to this county by his parents when he was a child. He grew up on the farm, and received a common school education..." I wonder if the Geo referenced could be my ggggrandfather b abt 1797, served in War of 1812.
