Those frustrated by trying to figure out townships (as I was) might invest in DeLorme Street Atlas 2003. Township maps can be found for some counties on the web, but by no means all. Street Atlas has them in all states that have such, and you can zoom to more detail that is provided by most web pages. The Street Atlas database also has a fairly good inventory of active cemeteries. Combined with a GPS, it is a great tool for finding your way around unfamiliar territory. And I use the GPS to mark old cemeteries I find, on the map. Small waterways are better found on the earlier Street Atlas 9. 2003 is not an update of 9 but rather an entirely new program. 9 unfortunately did not have township information. 9 is in my opinion easier to use and has more attractive maps. Hi Dru, and others, I wanted to first remind you that the last two posts you replied to were gatewayed from the message boards and so you need to reply there so those folks get your replies. (So much to remember, I can't count how many PIN's/Passwords I now have to recall just to get through the day) Dru, I also want to ask you about the Boyer you mention in East Pennsboro. I have a John Boyer b.1792, d. 1860 - m. Ann Brubaker b. 1781, d. 1857. Both are buried in the Methodist cemetery in Halifax, Dauphin Co. There daughter Elizabeth Boyer b. 1819, d. 1844 - m. Frederick Fronk. If this sounds like the Boyer you have information on I would like to know what area of East Pennsboro he lived. John and Anna's children include Elizabeth, Joseph, John and David. Thanks Holly for correcting me. Tammy had told me it was just up the road from Enola. How are you? I am still searching for Sebastian Eckerts Father. You may know the answer to this question. Sebastian and his sons were Coopers by trade. Was there a boat building site there or a Brewery? In one of the census it said a 10 year old was working in the Cooper shop. Where was this shop and what was it? One son was a Nailer so I figured he worked in the nail factory. All those problems I had were due to another computer virus and it's fixed now. Have a great day! Dru
The earlier posting was in error: "Frankford is a township in Cumberland Co. It is just north of E. Pennsboro along the Swatara ?sp River across from Harrisburg." Hello: Just to update all those interested in Mother Cumberland: A Harvest of Memories: Reunion 2003". Registrations are coming in from all across the Country - we receive two today from Alaska. It is amazing to see how the descendants of the Early Pennsylvania Families have spread across the United States. Many of you have contacted me regarding holding a get-together for your particular surname during the reunion weekend. Time has been set aside on Friday the 18th of July from 4-7pm. Any surname can hold a get-together. Several individuals have already reserved a classroom for their surname gathering. If you would like to host a surname gathering, please let me know. Being a "host" would mean the following: 1. Contact me and reserve the classroom (no charge of course). 2. Decide the time during the 4-7pm time slot you would like your gathering to be. Most people have requested a one-hour block of time, but you may request longer if you like. 3. At the gathering you would call the group to order, announce the surname being represented and allow those present to exchange data, contact information with one another, etc. At the end of the time block, ask if they want to meet again during that weekend. If so, have the group decide on a time and place. You may want to bring a steno pad or notebook paper in case people need it. That's all there is to it. The surnames that have already confirmed with me are: (variations of spellings are included within each surname). Culbertson, Quigley, Kerr, Kell(e)y, Beelman, Young, Brady. Several others are pending. So, load up the wagon, hitch up the team, and head on home to Mother Cumberland. Don't forget, bring the family and enjoy a weekend back where your ancestors lived, worked, fought & prayed. Thanks for all your help! Donna
