Mary was John's second wife. He married a Frances Bruce in 1800 (Frances is my gg grandmother). John Smith lived in East Pennsboro Twp. (1810 Census). In this same township (1810 Census) were living two Thomas Fishers and their families. One Thomas was over 45 years, wife also over 45, two males 16-25, two females 16-25, and two females under 10. This could be Mary's family. The other Thomas was between 26 and 45 in age, wife also 26-45, six males 16-26, one male under 10, two females 16-25. Also listed in the census for this Thomas 5 slaves. By the age you described your Thomas, this could be yours. I remember reading that a Samuel was the father of Thomas. John and Mary Fisher Smith were members of Silver Springs Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsburg, PA. Do you have information on either of these two Thomas Fishers?

    2. I still can’t decide which motel/hotel to use, mostly because I don’t know how far they are from the Historical Society/Hamilton Library on Pitt St (up to 6 or 8 miles would be OK, even longer for a nice & reasonable place). Here are some of the choices I have, and I’m hoping someone can rate at least a few of them on approximate distance from the library and on the “nice place” or “bad place” scale. I can check prices by phone, but if you have an opinion on that too I’d appreciate it. On Harrisburg Pike (all show a "Carlisle" address): Appalachian Motor Inn Best Western Carlisle Motel Coach & Four Motor Lodge Econo Lodge Hampton Inn Holiday Inn Hotel Carlisle Howard Johnson (somebody said don’t do this one) Jacob’s Resting Place (sounds like a cemetery) Motel 6 Pike Motel Quality Inn Ramada Inn Rodeway Inn Super 8 Motel On Hanover Street: Carlisle House Inn Comfort Inn Harvon Motel Lodging in Carlisle Buttonwood on Waggoner’s Gap Road Days Inn on Alexander Spring Road Super 8 on Alexander Spring Road Harmony Hall Bed & Breakfast on Harmony Hall Dr Pleasantfield Bed & Breakfast on Hickorytown Rd Sleep Inn on Garland Dr Stardust Motel on Holly Pike Thanks again, Graham Louer Frisco, TX
