Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JaB.2ACE/3100.2.1 Message Board Post: Arlene Somehow yesterday I got notification of your reply dated 5/19/2004. It contained info on Eliza Isabella Barr. You indicate she married Samuel Shultz 12/31/1839. You have her death as 1845 and three children. I have marriage as 1/1/1840, however, 1840 census has Eliza and Samuel living together in Xenia, Greene Co., OH. I did not have date for her death only knew it was before 1854 from intestate papers of her father. The intestate papers said she lived and died in Iowa. The 1850 census shows children to be 10, 7 and I think 5 (hard to read). 1860 census has 19, 17, 15. Since you have Eliza dying in 1845 I wonder if she died giving birth to Samuel. If you have other info I would be interested. If you need anything from me let me know Jim

    3. Hi Fellow Listers: This just came through the PA Lancaster Co. List from Peggy Reeves..... NARA has already cut out their evening and weekend hours, and today they told me it would be permanent until further notice. There have been budget cuts, and then the flooding we had in D.C. about 5 weeks ago caused extensive damage. NARA in D.C. was completely off-limits for over 3 weeks. The basement was under water, including the nice new cafeteria that they had recently added. They are having to tear things out and completely redo it. The building is open now, but they are still running off of generators, and there is only limited power available. You are not allowed to plug in laptops, and the second floor research room is not being powered at all. Researchers are being kept in a smaller room on the first floor to view their files, but there are only two copiers running, and you are timed at 5 minutes of copying and then you have to go to the end of the line and wait again. The "regulars" are scrambling to keep up with their workload. There is limited seating for researchers in the smaller room, and those without a seat have to wait outside the room on a waiting list and not be allowed in until another researcher exits. Appointments for the bulk copier fill up the day before. It isn't pretty. If you are planning a trip to NARA soon, do yourself a favor and postpone it. Peggy Reeves

    1. Cumberland County Maps
    2. Would you be so kind as to see if there are any Smith family members named George, William, John or Hugh in the book by Rev. William T. Swaim. There is a Swaim/Smith connection in early 1800's in Indiana, along with the Smith family being in York County in 1753. Thank You, Judy Smith/Colorado "In addition, I have the book by Rev. William T. Swaim called "Over the River." This book contains several Cumberland Valley maps that show the approximate location of the first 100+ pioneers to cross the river under the authority of Samuel Blunston. More than 300 pioneer names (mostly Scot-Irish) are listed and the dates of arrival between 1734-1736. For example, the first license was issued on 24 Jan 1734 to Robert Miller. He got 200 acres near Carlisle on the LeTort Spring. Contact me if interested."

    3. I see in the 1870 Federal Census for Pennsylvania, Cumberland County, South Middleton, the family of George (age 48) & Sarah WONDERLY, and a Margaret WONDERLY (age 59). I am trying to trace a Margaret WUNDERLE (b. about 1815, Hesse-Darmstadt) who married (place/date unknown) Xavier REINFRIED. They had a daughter, Margaret, baptized in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Pittsburgh, 26 July, 1835 (sponsors: Georg WUNDERLE & Margaret WUNDERLE). The Xavier & Margaret [WUNDERLE] REINFRIED family shows up next in Dubuque, Iowa, in the 1836 Iowa Territorial Census. The Dubuque Daily Times 1871 obituary for Mrs. Xavier REINFRIED [Margaret WUNDERLE] says she "was a native of Germany, and came west at an early age, reaching St. Louis in 1830." I have been unable to document Margaret in St. Louis. I have been unable to find any information about the sponsors Georg & Margaret WUNDERLE. Does anyone have info about WUNDERLE/WONDERLY families in Cumberland County? Dan Daniel J. Kortenkamp Stevens Point, WI http://www.uwsp.edu/psych/dk/danielpg.htm

    3. I am looking for documentation on the birth of Phillip KNIFELY who was born in Cumberland, PA in 1777. He might have been related to a JACOB NIFLEY who was born about 1704. I am also looking for a documentation of a marriage between Roger MOURNING and Jane KENNEDY in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania in 1778. I will be traveling to the area in October and wondered where the best libraries would be to do my research.

Peter Smith does not appear in the Blunston License Book, however a William Smith did get a Nov 19, 1734, license for "Fairview" which was along the Susquehanna River, just south of New Cumberland in York Co. There were also listed a Henry and Kilian Smith assigned tor Springettsbury Manor, York County. When Blunston finished his work in Cumberland County (1736) he then went to York County to work with the pioneers in Springettsbury Manor. Wilmer Maxwell Carlisle, PA

I have seen differing reports on the marital status Gen Irvine's brother Andrew. Some indicate he was married, others indicate he never married.
