He married Alice MIAS on 30 April 1735 at Little Compton, R.I. She was born 1711. daughter of Nicholas MIAS and Elizabeth NICHOLAS. They had 6 children: 1. Nathaniel GRINNELL b. 9 Nov. 1735 d: 17 June 1829 2. Remington GRINNELL b. 4 June 1738 d: after 1771 3. Abigail GRINNELL b. 7 April 1740 at R.I. or MA. died R.I. 4. Daniel GRINNELL b. 4 June 1742 d: 9 Aug. 1816 5. Gideon GRINNELL b. 26 Aug. 1745 d: 13 Sept. 1831 6. Elizabeth GRINNELL b. 12 Sept. 1755 d: 1806 Alice's surname is sometimes given as MIEUS. Jonathan and Alice's intention for marriage was recorded 22 March 1735. The family moved to Dartsmouth, Mass, around 1740, where the 4th and 5th childen were born. Later they had a farm on Elizabeth Island. ( which might explain how the eldest son Nathaniel, happened to be married on Nantucket Island in 1756) A deed in dated 13 Sept. 1758 shows that Jonathan GRINNELL, cordwainer, of Elizabeth Island, bought land at Tiverton, R.I. Three of the sons, Nathaniel, Daniel and Gideon, lived at one time or another in Tiverton. GOD BLESS!!!!!!!
