Smith, May 30, 1889 prison, probably in 1864 In addition to this interesting record, I was also pleased to recieve an "acrostic" written by one of my scholars, Charlotte L. Knapp, then in her fourteenth year. I here give it with some few slight emendations" AN ACROSSTIC Forget us not, forget us never: Remember us till death shall sever, And we'll remember thee; No, you will ne'er forgotten be, Celestial are sweet friendship's ties, It lives in heaven beyond the skies. Soon the time will come when we must part, Cordial the love each scholar's heart, Wilt thou consent our teacher yet to be? And still more faithful pupils you will see; Indeed we will improve as fast again, Desirous that you'll teach us, if you can. ______________ The year of eighteen fifty-two Is a cherished one in memory's view; Oft regrets will come that it is past, "Tis sad such pleasure cannot last.
