Jeffrey, Heritage Quest is something that the library pays to subscribe to. It's for library members only, as it should be. In fact, it's probably part of their contract with HQ that it not be free except for in-library use. This is not the first time that someone has found a way to access some library's database through a flaw in their website. In the past, the flaw has been found quickly and then the free ride ends. As much as I wish we could all access this stuff for free all the time, that isn't the case. It's expensive to get and maintain the system and servers and to get the stuff for us to access. I expect to pay something for that. And $35/year is so cheap, it's incredible that we can get access for that. I'm just thankful. Just as I'm thankful for the countless times that someone on a list such as this has given generous help--for free. You can consider it ok or theft, whichever your conscience tells you. Either way, it will probably be coming to an end soon.
