We had a great trip to western PA. It was a "sentimental journey" - to my hometown, my parents' hometowns, meeting new relatives and renewing old acquaintances. We also enjoyed the magnificent Pennsylvania scenery, meandering across the state and stopping overnight at Bellefonte near State College and on the way back at Port Allegheny. We found Barber Cemetery in Conneaut Lake and took some great pictures of the Dennis headstones and the overall woodsy scene. At the Crawford Co.Historical Society on the second floor of the Meadville Library I combed through all of the Meadville city directories and picked up several obituaries as well as the newspaper birth notices for my father, my sister, and myself. The old newspapers there are precious, as is the card file of birth, marriage, and death notices and other items. The staff there was most helpful. We made some important genealogical discoveries in all 3 counties visited (Crawford, Mercer, and Beaver), and I can't say enough about the helpful people and resources in the local historical and genealogical societies. They helped me go back 2 or 3 more generations and I found two new surnames to research. We were quite concerned to learn that the C.C.Historical Society may have to move out of the Meadville Library. I'm surprised there has been nothing on this mailing list about it. There may have been further developments since my return last week, but the Meadville Tribune on line is very sketchy. I do hope they can resolve the problem. My high school reunion (50th) was great fun. Everyone had matured and mellowed enough to just relax and relive the old days. We also paid visits to Conneaut Lake, the Crawford Co. Fair, the Drake Oil Well Museum in Titusville, and Eddie's Foot-long Hotdog Stand. I, too, am surprised that this situation hasn't been mentioned on the list. We read about it in a copy of the Erie Times which my daughter happened to pick up for some other reason. The Historical Society collection is a real treasure, and many Crawford County researchers have benefited from it.
