Can you tell by your readings if this paper deals more specifically with the city of Titusville, or does it also deal with the surrounding county's news? Thank you for your help. **********RESPONSES*********** http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TdB.2ACI/1837.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Sara, The article that Edward Bates appears in is a rather lenghy piece titled "The Mercilless Analysis of Mr. Bates" Edward Bates was President Lincoln's Attorney General who evidently gave his own mercilless analysis when he addressed a letter to a meeting of "conservative citizens of St. Louis," in which the Freedmen's Bureau bill was subjected to analysis by him. The Titusville Morning Herald is billed as "The first Morning paper in the Oil Regions. It contains a good degree of advertisements, world news, obituaries, social events etc. Just how far reaching the info contained in it goes regarding local and surrounding areas is hard to say but I would think that the oil region might encompass Oil City and the surrounding oil towns. I would think, however, that the larger percentage of information would be Titusville related. I could do a further test search for you to see if anything shows up. Should you wish a copy of the article on Edward Bates, I could print it off [it copies the whole page and print is small]. Let me know and I can send it to you via snail mail or try to attach it to a reply. I'm not sure how that works with this. *********RESPONSE*********** http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TdB.2ACI/1837.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: The Edward Bates of the article is not the one I am seeking. But I did have fun searching this one out on the internet and even found a photo to compare to the Edward of my line! Thank you for the help. Sara
