    3. If Mr. Brakel was a German Lutheran, then Venango Twp. was a logical place to be. Zion Church (a union church - Evangelical Lutheran and Reformed) was established in Venango Twp. quite early in the county's history. Records from this church survive from 1814 to 1871, although some years seem spotty. The original records are on deposit at the Lutheran Archives, Langenheim Library, Thiel College, Greenville, PA. The Crawford Co. Genealogical Society published the baptisms and confirmations in its 1995 journals. Unfortunately, the Brakel name, under any spelling, does not appear in the baptisms, communicants, or confirmations.
