Does the Crawford Co., or Titusville Pennsylvania Library have the book "History of Crawford Co., PA 1885? My Great Great Grandfather, "John Joseph Hirst" was living in Titusville PA. at 145 S. Franklin St. He and his family were Presbyterian. He died September 20, 1888. His wife Susan continued to live there until her death April 21, 1889. They are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. In the obit for John J.Hirst it states he hauled the first load of oil from Colonel Drake's first oil well. He also had his life story written up by J. H. Caldwell in the Cleveland Leader Paper, shortly before his death. Anyone who can lead me to the history of this family, and the "History of Crawford Co." I would appreciate this help. I have been searching for this information for a long time. Ruth
Hello Ruth: I have the book entitled "Directory of Crawford County PA 1879-1880". In it on page 209 is listed J.J. "Hurst", no occupation listed, living on Franklin Street in Titusville. The spelling is off, but the street is correct. No bio listed for him though. Not much help, best of luck to you. Have you tried the Crawford County Historical Society?
