For those of you who are not familiar with the standard 1885 Crawford Co. history, here are a few notes which might make it easier to make inquiries: As Diana Watson said, it was published in 1885 It includes information about the county from its formation in 1800 to 1885. There are sections on the history of each township, including names of early settlers, early purchasers, etc. There is a biographical section. The biographies can vary from just a single paragraph to several pages per person. It appears that they were paid for by the person or family involved - a subscription, if you will, to have your bio. included in the book. Obviously, then, the bios cover only a tiny fraction of the population of the county. And, since they were submitted by people living here in 1885 when the book was published, it rarely includes detailed information about people who moved on early in the county's history. There is an every-name index, which was not original to the book. Reprints are still available, I believe, from the county historical society.
