    3. Does anyone know the modern medical term for the "Bloody Flux" that strickened Crawford County in the fall of 1865. John and Julia Shontz of Vernon Township lost five children between October 11th and November 2nd. Thanks in advance, Bob Todd

    3. Hi Bill, Thank you so much for volunteering to look for my relatives! I sure do appreciate the help. The people who died in Washington Township were: Rebecca Dow Wells (1803 - 1831), James Wells (1827 - 1830), and perhaps Elizabeth Wells ( 1824 - ?). The family bible did not have a death date for Elizabeth, but she doesn't show up later anywhere with the remaining family. My family left for IL around October 1836 per land transfer records. The adjoining lands were owned by Reuben McLallin & Amos Bailey. Frank Potter bought the 30 acres from my relative "Caleb Wells". Any help would be so great! THANKS! 3. This tale does not sound plausible. The cabin was probably built during warn weather, unless it was constructed as emergency shelter after the snakes denned. If constructed during warm weather, the builder would obviously have observed he was building on a snake den site and should of seen the snakes sunning on the rocks.. But Truth is always stranger than Fiction. 2. I sent this a couple of days ago but don't think it got to the list. Pardon if this is a repeat. I heard a story of a man who built a cabin on a large rock jutting over French Creek just outside of Cambridge Springs, and am trying to find out if it is true. It seems that fall his neighbors had not seen him or his family for some time so they went to check on him. When they got there they found the family dead from rattlesnake bites. Apparently there was a nest of snakes in the crevices of the rock and when the fireplace was lit and heated the rock, the snakes came out. Sounds like an urban legend to me, but stranger things have happened. Looking forward to hearing about this...... Beth in Ohio

    3. Hello, The Mitchell cemetery is only about 3 miles away from the Washington Twp line. It is located in what is now called Cambridge Township. There is also one at the corner of Route 4 and 98 that is called Mclellan Corner's cemetery. That one is just inside the Washington Twp line from Cambridge Twp. 3. Does anyone have access to Crawford Co. Cemetery Records for the area in and around Troy? I am looking for Edward and Nancy Kinne who I last found in the 1930 census age 72 and 73 living in Troy on Diamond Street, so they would have died sometime after that and probably before 1950. They had lived in Troy for a long time so would most likely be buried there. Helen

    3. Carolyn: The short answer to your question is that Washington Township in Erie Co. does not "go into" Crawford County anywhere. If you'd care to provide the name and dates of the people for whom you are looking, we might be able to see if they sound familiar and perhaps if they show up in a cemetery in Crawford County. 1. French Creek snake pit
    2. I am wondering if anyone can either verify or disclaim a story I was told just last night. A Crawford County pioneer found a large rock on French Creek just below Cambridge Springs. He built his cabin on said rock. When cold weather came his friendsand neighbors noticed they had not seen any of the family for a time, so they went to check on them. They found the entire family dead in the cabin. It seems the cabin was built on a den of rattle-snakes nested in the crevices of the rock, and that when it turned cold and the fireplace was lit the snakes came out. Urban legend? Beth in Ohio
