    3. Terri, I have the Lowell and Cedar Creek Cemetery Book. There are "16" Ragon's listed between the two. Henry H. Ragon was born in 1837 and died 1918. He is in Row C30 and was a Veteron. Jennie A. Ragon is shown as being born 1847 and dying 1933 and also in Row C30. The Ragon names following are shown in the Cemetery Book: Adelia, Chandos, Cordie, Elmer, Forest, George, Henrietta, Henry H., Howard H., Jennie A, Johnnie, L.W., Lorraine "Larry", Myrtle (Hale), Robert, and Roy. Hope this helps! Carolyn -- "teri" <sanchoinc@houston.rr.com> wrote: Forwarded from the message board. Because of age difference this is probably a 2nd marriage for Uriel. Also, the 1840 census has quite a few more children in the household than the 4 children Uriel and Sallie had. Their children are: Martin V.b. 4 July 1837; Nancy b. abt 1840; Henry b. abt 1842; and Jane Amy (Jennie) b. 1 Mar. 1847. Nancy married John Cox and they ended up in Lowell IN (Lake County). Martin married an Isadora and Jane Amy married H.H. Ragon and settled also in Lake County,IN. "Jennie" and H.H. were my 3G grandparents. A cousin found that Henry and his wife moved to Crawford Co. Sallie and Jennie moved to IN after Uriel died--lived with Nancy and her husband. (Sallie is buried in ! the Lowell Cemetery with her kids.) That is how Jennie met and married H.H. Ragon. The Titusville Morning Herald is billed as "The first Morning paper in the Oil Regions. It contains a good degree of advertisements, world news, obituaries, social events etc. Just how far reaching the info contained in it goes regarding local and surrounding areas is hard to say but I would think that the oil region might encompass Oil City and the surrounding oil towns. I would think, however, that the larger percentage of information would be Titusville related. I could do a further test search for you to see if anything shows up. Should you wish a copy of the article on Edward Bates, I could print it off [it copies the whole page and print is small]. Let me know and I can send it to you via snail mail or try to attach it to a reply. I first found Stephen single living in 1950 Deerfield Township, Warren County, Pa. with Reuben Scott as a labourer. The William McDonald family is also living in Deerfield Township then as well. Then in 1860 they are living next to each other in Randolph Township, the reason being that Stephen married Martha Jane McDonald. Martha Jane's mother is Lurancy Teed, sister to my g-g-grandfather Horace Teed. Horace was born in Ellicott, Chautauqua County, New York. The McDonalds were also from New York but I'm not sure exactly where. I don't know who Stephen's parents were for sure. Stephen was born in 1829. Martha Jane died before the 1880 census where Stephen is living with his son & family, also in Randolph. The 1880 census says that Stephen, father & mother were born in New York. The village where they lived is called "Black Ash" and at one time there was a Post Office there. They along with Abraham Luce and many other Luces are buried in the Black Ash Cemetery there in Randolph Township. The Black Ash Cemetery index says, Abraham Luce: b. 1800 d. December 08, 1890. 2. If it was indeed Black Ash, as was suggested here, according to the USGS, that is an historical place 12 m. Southeast of Meadville, 12 m. south west of Titusville, and 9 miles northeast of Cochranton, at the south end of Grove Road. There doesn't appear to be anything any nearer than that on a modern map. Then he moved his family to Erie County, PA, Wayne Twp. But, in the 1870 census he and his wife are found in their daughter's household in Rockdale, Crawford County, PA. Their daughter being Mary Rockwell wife of Horace. In 1880 they are both back in Wayne, Erie County, PA. Thanks.
