    3. Would you know if there is anyone buried there with the name Flickinger / Flickener(Flickenner) ?? They would have been there from about 1750 to 1850 to be my family. One name might be Jacob and wife of Jacob. Thanks for any help you can give. Bev Bennett

    3. Hi, I am one of the acting caretakers of Smith Cemetery, Hayfield Township, Crawford County, PA. I am working on trying to restore some of the many missing tombstones in the cemetery. I also have some info transcribed from many of the existing headstones that I can send to anyone looking for ancestors. What I am hoping is that someone either has a map of the cemetery plots (I've tried the courthouse, a few of the historical societies, and a few other places with no luck) or even the name of an ancestor that is buried there to give us an idea of who is in the cemetery. I will also try to help anyone looking for info on the cemetery or anyone there with an existing stone, as I said before. thanks for the help and I hope I can be of help to some of you. 3. Josh, I have been trying to document all the cemeteries in Crawford County on my web site. I would appreciate it if you could pass on to me what documentation you have for Smith Cemetery. You can take a look at my web site to see what I have been working on. Thanks Frank Bernosky http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~fraber/index.html

    2. Annette Lynch
    3. For those of you who are not familiar with the standard 1885 Crawford Co. history, here are a few notes which might make it easier to make inquiries: As Diana Watson said, it was published in 1885 It includes information about the county from its formation in 1800 to 1885. There are sections on the history of each township, including names of early settlers, early purchasers, etc. There is a biographical section. The biographies can vary from just a single paragraph to several pages per person. It appears that they were paid for by the person or family involved - a subscription, if you will, to have your bio. included in the book. Obviously, then, the bios cover only a tiny fraction of the population of the county. And, since they were submitted by people living here in 1885 when the book was published, it rarely includes detailed information about people who moved on early in the county's history. There is an every-name index, which was not original to the book. Reprints are still available, I believe, from the county historical society.

    3. From page 663: Jacob Flickinger was a German and a Dunkard. He raised a large family, who subsequently removed from the township. One of his sons, John, was a notced racer. he distinguished himself by his fleetness of foo, once, by pursuing a wild turkey and catching it just as the fowl had given up the contest and taken flight on its pinions. Page 898 Reference to Mary Ellen Cole (Mrs. John Flickinger)... Page 1125: In the bio for John Brown, a reference to his wife, Catherine, daughter of Jacob Flickinger. they were married April 8, 1851 and had four children, etc...
