    1. [PACRAWFO-L] Benson Memorial Library
    2. Annette Lynch
    3. Benson Memorial Library is a public library. It is part of the Crawford County Federated Library System. I have had good luck in my occasional trips there and in my correspondence with the library. They have been willing to check for an occasional obituary in the Herald for me, when I have been able to give them a specific name and date. 3. Hi Denise Zophar DAVIS - an unusual name caught my eye - I find I have a book with his signature penned 7 Aug 1851 along with his wife Mrs Cordelia DAVIS - who wrote a poem in same book. Location was in Washington, PA (Washington valley maybe ?) Now with a wife named Cordelia rather than Lois, and the time frame, I would speculate this Zophar may be a brother to your Polly Davis. It is the first time that I have heard about it. I am also interested in Titusville. My grandfather, Frank Richard ANDREWS was born there in 1884. His father Charles Jackson Andrews was proprietor of the Brunswick Hotel in the 1890's, located at 57 to 63 W. Spring. Charles was married to Jennie HAZELTINE and they resided at 165 N. I believe the hotel is no longer there but do wonder if either of the residences still exist. - Ed Edward Coates Sinker - email: sinker@globalnet.co.uk Church Lea Bosbury Herefordshire HR8 1PX U. K.

    3. Hi - I am also interested in Titusville and it's good to know there are others out there interested in the area. My father's family was from Titusville. I believe there is a small private library in town called the Benson Memorial Library which specializes in the history of Titusville. Their address is 213 North Franklin Street, Titusville PA 16354 (814) 827-2913. If there is an e-mail address for them I would love to have it. I have never contacted them but I will one of thses days. Hope this helps. Anne Searer asearer@pptnlx.pptn.org

    1. [PACRAWFO-L] Gerow family in Crawford Co.
    2. Carl Sherrick
    3. Hello all, I am searching for the family roots of the GEROWS, who are my ancestors on my mother's side. I have data on my grandmother, Laura Helen GEROW, who was born in Crawford Co. in January of 1869, to John N. and K(or C)atherine PECK GEROW. In addition, John, who was born in PA in 1846, enlisted in the Union Army at Titusville at age 17. At some point John and Kate moved to Grand Valley in Warren Co., where they raised 11 children. About 1886, Laura married Josiah CLARK, and they eventually settled in Mars, Butler Co., PA, where they raised 3 daughters, Ethel, Ruth, and Althea. Ruth is my mother. Ironically, Josiah CLARK was killed in a construction accident in Hartstown, Crawford Co., in 1915 (obit in Butler Citizen April 19, 1915). I have found in the 1900 census the name of Isaac B. GEROW living on North Main St. in Cambridge Springs, Crawford Co. He was born Oct. 1829, and may be either the father or uncle of John. This is because one of John's sons was named Isaac B(loomfield) GEROW. I am leaning to the belief that Crawford may be the birthplace of John GEROW, and possibly of Kate PECK as well. If this stirs any memories among the readers of PACRAWFO-L, I would appreciate hearing from them. Also, I wonder whether back issues of the county newspapers are available for study. I understand that the Meadville Public Library has housed them for the Historical Society. Thanks for the chance to query, Carl Sherrick sherrick@princeton.edu
