I noted on the posting of the Crawford Journal dated 9 June 1892 the surname > Grinrod. This is the surname (maiden) of my g-grandmother who was from Crawford > County. Her name was Alice Grinrod. She was born 19 Feb 1847(I think in > England). She died 18 Oct 1920 in Hunnewell, Missouri. She was married to Ira > Bennett Stimpson of Crawford County. He is listed in the 1860 census in the > household with Betsey Stimpson (age 55) and Benjamin age 18. Ira was 21 or 22 > at that time. He was born 20 Dec 1838 in England (I think). I believe Ira and > Alice were married in Pa., possibly Crawford or a surrounding county, probably > in the 1860's.At some point they moved to Hunnewell, Missouri. He died there in > 1905. Alice's father was James Grinrod and he is listed in 1860 in Upper Darby > Township.I am wondering if there is any connection with Francelia Grinrod of > Meadville. I would appreciate any info on the Grinrod or Stimpson surnames. Is > there a listing of area cemetaries online? >

Hi All. Just wanted to thank everyone that responded to my listing on Elton Harrison Thompson. I DID make a mistake on Union City, Crawford County. It should have been Union Township in Crawford County. Sorry for the mix up. I'm still looking for for g-grandpa Elton, so if anyone has info on my corrected version, I'd sure appreciate any help I can get!! Thanks a lot. Eleanor
I have had such good results from this Crawford County list in the past I hope this request will be equally productive! I am trying to update current generations that must be out there somewhere. Over the years my father lost touch with his cousins so I have information that was fairly complete in the 1950s but is sadly lacking in 2000! Three generations of O'HAREs and ABELs lived and prospered in your area so it is hard to believe that all descendants have moved from the area. I would really appreciate any leads that might help me fill in the gaps in my tree. I guess we could call these grafts! I have lots of information to share with any interested family members. In the late 1800s, the O'HARE and ABEL families lived in the Titusville, Corry, Shamburg area. The variety of counties and townships in that region of the state makes the search quite a challenge! Hugh O'HARE (the elder) was born in Ontario Canada and came to the Titusville area about 1864 and (no surprise) got into the oil production business. Hugh O'HARE (the middle) was in partnership with a brother-in-law, in the firm of O'Hare and Condra, Druggists, and Hugh O'HARE (the younger) was an M.D. and died in the 70s, I believe. Barnard ABEL (the elder) came to Titusville in 1865 from New York City and died shortly thereafter. His son, Barnard ABEL (the middle), was, at one time, the Superintendent of the Titusville Iron Works. And then there was, of course, Barnard ABEL (the younger) who was my grandfather and moved from Titusville to Cleveland in the mid 1910s. He died in 1937. If you think any of these folks are in your family tree, please let me know and we can compare notes. Even if you just know someone who might know someone, that might also be a big help! Thanks so much for any help. Oh - the PAULMANs, DOWNEYs, CONDRAs, and the KUHLs - they were out-laws and I have good stuff on some of them too! while searching for something else, I found the following. Hope someone could use this CRAWFORD COUNTY HUIDEKOPER, HENRY S.: Meadville, Lieutenant Colonel, 150th Pennsylvania Infantry. Gettysburg, Pa., 1 July 1863. Citation given: 27 May 1905. While engaged in repelling an attack of the enemy, received a severe wound of the right arm, but instead of retiring remained at the front in command of the regiment. Seems a shame there is such a gap between the war and when the citation was given.
