Okay... I have applied formally for the following boards: Wills Deeds Obits Pensions Bible Records I had to link to Richard's page since he is "officially" the County Coordinator. I wrote him an "official" letter and ccd his SC asking him to poop or get of the pot but in more ladylike language. The folks at GenConnect warned me in BOLD letters that if the boards are not used....we lose them. So, when I give the word...please start entering data. If you make mistakes, write me with the corrections, I can do that. I am soo excited. Thanks to all of you for the letters of support. BTW, I am giving up most all my other mailing list and county responsibilities to make this my special project. A genealogy angel just informed me of Crozier surname in some census records of this county. That is why I have joined this list. I am trying to connect my Ralph CRozier, b. 1800 County Tyrone Ireland to other Croziers. He came to US at age 18 and first lived awhile in the Pittsburgh area prior to settling in Belmont County, OH. If any researchers out there have a connection to some Croziers who may have gone to Ohio, please let me know. Martha

It seems I made a big mistake in reading the 1860 census for my Jeremiah Waters, he was a Sawyer not a Lawyer. I should have been more careful in reading the page. Sorry about that. Sandy If Jeremiah was a lawyer, he evidently was not admitted to the Crawford Co. Bar; see http://www.gremlan.org/~yoset/CCo/history/1888/Bar.html Since members of the profession seemed to have usually been called attorneys at that time, I wonder if Jeremiah might instead have been a "Sawyer"?
Sandy: If the Joel Hotchkiss in the 1830 Census is age 45 and older, which is one of the age categories in that census, then you have a good place to start searching other records. Do you have the census, or just the index? I'd be glad to do a lookup for you if all you have is the index. Let me know! I just found my husband's grgr grandfather Jeremiah Waters in the 1860 Crawford Co. census and his occupation was Lawyer. Does anyone know what was required for one to set up a practice? Would one have to register with the State? I'm trying to find out where Jeremiah Waters came from and who were his parents. Thanks, Sandy

Tom, I was mostly interested in census information beyond the years currently listed in the US Genweb Page for Crawford Co. ( ie. 1790 to 1820 ). I can appreciate that the way it has been transcribed in the past can be laborious. I wondered if there could be some tie in made to NARA as I mentioned in my post. That information is all there, but it now can be job for people to get to it. Maybe it is some time off before we can research it on line, but I thought I would at least ask. I first found the US Genweb Page that included the three county information back last summer. I have only accessed the Crawford Co. page off and on. I find that it has added a considerable amount of information since last July or August. Still, from the main page there are still some connections that lead to "not found". With your e-mail today I've learned that your genealogy page can be accessed directly with out going through the three county US Genweb page. (ie: http://www.gremlan.org/~yoset/ ) In a separate post from Sandra Schroeder, she writes that the 1850 and 1860 census are now in the work of being transcribed to your web page. I appreciate the work you all have put into this project. Bob Kennedy
Thanks to a great group of people (who I learned on Friday evenings are all at dinner) I know have the facts--well, maybe too many! Brokenstraw -- in 1800, it was a Twp. in Crawford -- but when the county split to form new, it got moved to "maybe" Warren and "maybe" Verango! I've been told both...and I still confused...but do want to say thanks to Barbara for the wonderful history notes she sent to me -- to Kipp, and to Annette for the input each of you took time to send. Happy Day to you All, Diane
This is from the Ancestry Weekly Digest, 17 April, 1999... thought it might be of interest: "Finding Our Roots" Weeklong Special on NBC Next Week According to an MSNBC article on "A Family Tree That Spans the Net" NBC News will be airing a weeklong series on genealogy called, "Finding Our Roots," beginning on 19 April. According to the message: "NBC anchors Tom Brokaw, Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Ann Curry, Al Roker, Jane Pauley, and Stone Phillips go looking for their ancestors, from Romania to Japan. We'll have a guide to finding your own family tree, links to some of the top databases, and reviews of genealogical software." Folks: I heard from GenConnect. As long as Richard Harvey is the CC for Crawford County in the USGW program, we cannot have a surname query board without his permission. I have written him tonight and will wait a respectable time for an answer. Since he is not a subscriber to the mailing list, I am sure he isn't aware about our frustration or impatience. But in the interim... We are getting the following boards: Wills, Bios, Deeds, Pensions and Bible records. I was warned if they sit idle they will be reclaimed for space. You understand what that means. We have to load them down with data. They will be linked on the new web page and I will ask that Tom Yoster links them as well. I should have them setup by Monday at least and will pass along the URLS for them. You or anyone will be able to find them in the directory on the GenConnect site at Rootsweb site too. Remembering all those entries are archived and searchable as are our messages here, it will be important to try to capitalize all surnames and try not to give vital data for living folks. Never put your home address and telephone number on a posting. So, I am off for tonight. I really appreciate you folks and your dedication.
