    3. Have to make a correction to my original announcement. The Historical Society is publishing the book, the Genealogical Society is helping with the photo collection. I am active in both groups, and sometimes forget which one I am talking about! 1. Re: [Crawf'rd] Jacob Shontz and Mary Ann (Williams) McMichael
    2. David, I lost track of the widow and 2 children of David Shontz who drowned in Conneaut Lake in 1828. If one of those children was a male and keep his surname he may be the source of all these Shontzs in Crawford Co we can not identify. This may include Annette Lynch's Friendly Shontz. When did Adelbert die? If after 1900, he may have a death certificate on file with the state. Good Luck, Todd ----- Original Message ----- From: "David M. 1. [Crawf'rd] Naturalization photos requested
    2. Annette Lynch
    3. As some of you may know, the Crawford Co. Gen. Society is in process of publishing my transcription of Crawford Co. naturalizations, 1800 to 1906. We are hoping to be able to include photographs of at least some of those men who were naturalized here during that time period. We are asking anyone who would be interested in having a photo of an immigrant ancestor who became a citizen here in Crawford Co. included in the book to bring the photo to our work session on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the second of the public library, 10 a.m. to 12 noon. If you are interested in further information but cannot come to the meeting, you can contact me off-list at [email protected] We realize that the photos may not date from the time of naturalization, but that's okay. And, unfortunately, this is a men-only project, since women were rarely naturalized in the 19th century. 3. I am going to be gone for three or four weeks on a trip to the great northwest. Let me know how all this is doing when I get back. I will be glad to send a letter to whomever. I am leaving tomorrow so cannot do it today. I have too many irons in the fire, but would like to see this resolved in the favor of genealogy and history. This is something the entire country needs since there are folks out there that want to revise history to their liking. Also have forwarded the letter to the library and the historical society. The county said they weren't a part of either and forwarded my letter to each of the entities. The editor of the Meadville Journal contacted me and said that I was the third person to write and the editor asked me what was going on. He thinks it'll get someone's attention. Hopefully it does! 2. Wow, this is great. I just heard from another Heath. I submitted: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/pa/crawford/history/family/heath0001.txt to the Crawford County Archives. I found it in my father's desk after he died. Have you read it? My Grandmother was Clara Heath. She married George Adam Feldmiller and my father was a result of that union. Nancy F. Nicoll

    2. Kathy Barnes
    3. I'm beginning to receive replies. The Crawford County Commissioners' Office mailed me this reply: "Dear Ms. Barnes: We have received your letter of September 17 concerning the Crawford CCounty Historical Society. While the name is Crawford County, the historical society is not a county agency nor is the Crawford County Federated Library System under our jurisdiction. We have forwarded your letter to the two entities." Now the purpose of my letter was to bring the situation to their attention-and the revenue it would bring to the area, should the historical society stay up and running and what could happen if it doesn't. You'd think they'd be interested in money coming into the county?! I think they missed the boat. I plan to call them and try to make them understand what this is all about. The Tribune editor called and wants me to call and confirm my authorship of the letter I sent them. If you're going to write to them, keep it under 350 words. (I guess mine is a little long.) Anybody else hear anything on letters they sent? Kathy Londo Barnes Michigan __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? 1. Re: [Crawf'rd] WILLS in Crawford CO
    2. Annette Lynch
    3. Wills in Crawford Co. start in 1800, when the county was first established. Prior to that, you would probably find wills for people in this area listed in Allegheny Co., PA. The pre-1800 population was not large, and there might not have been many deaths in the area. 3. Dolores, It's a long shot, but I saw your name and had to ask. Do you know anything about James Laughlin and Mary Lindman? Their daughter, Sarah, was born about 1838 in Crawford County. In 1857, she married Cornelius Martin Connolly (Conley) in Calhoun Co. VA. I'm curious about her because she was my 2nd great-grandfather's first wife, I have lots of ancestors from Crawford Co but don't know anything about the Laughlin family there, and (just for a coincidence) my family name is Laughlin but they're from Indiana. Just thought I'd ask. Linda Laughlin Lang Oliver Springs TN

    3. Dear Bob - The CCGS is alive and well. We have no facility of our own. Everything we own is on permanent loan at the Historical Society library. We try to make purchases which augment the HS collection - for example, we purchased census records, 1850-80, for the surrounding counties, mortality schedules, agricultural schedules, etc. All of our journals are on file there, also. Our current journal is at the printer's. It may be several weeks before you receive it. We do not send out membership cards. Our next meeting is scheduled for the first Saturday in October, tentatively at the HS library. The address you have is correct. I can check with the treasurer to make sure she received it.
