Yes, cousin, I have Benjamin and Jane Inskip Harrison. I'm descended from them through their son Benjamin and wife Nancy Brown, and their son Benjamin and his wife Deborah Connell, and their daughter Nancy Harrison who married Cemon J. Childs. Cemon was a neighbor to his dad James Manning Childs, son of Cephas Childs, son of Silas Childs. I have an Orson J. Childs, b. 7/7/1857 d. 3/4/1925. He was a son of James Manning Childs. Do you have other data on him? I haven't got any info on Nancy Brown's family--do we have any other Brown descendants here? I think perhaps the Brown family may have arrived with the Harrisons--another English family that immigrated in the 1830's. A person by the name of Mark Matzenbacher, d. 10-21-1895, is reported (letter from James Acker) to have been buried in a Straw lot in the Venango cemetery. Does anyone have a clue who he might have been? Dick ---------------------------- Richard M. Straw Talent, OR 97540 <[email protected]>
I recently visited the Barber Cemetery in Conneaut Lake and was treated to a big surprise! Someone has cleared out all the underbrush and trash and has made the cemetery very presentable once again. To whom do we owe a great big THANKS?
Jan, I have Harrison ancestors in Crawford Co. too. Benjamin and Jane Inskip Harrison, I descend from their daughter Jane Harrison Morris. I also have an Orson Childs that married into the Gregory line. Any relation to your Issac Childs? I have a photo of Isaac Childs and his son, Isaac Jr., cousins. Isaac, Sr.'s father was Isaac Childs, brother of Silas Childs. Some of Silas' grandchildren moved to Crawford Co. PA 1820-1840. Isaac, the one in the photo I have, arrived in Crawford Co. PA in 1821. He died in 1864, so the photo was probably taken a year or two before that. Who are your Harrison relatives? Is there anyone going to Spring Cemetery soon that could take the readings from the stones of David and Betsy (Cornell) WELCH. Now believe he is related to Martin Welch whose readings I have already obtained. The listing on the Crawford website did not include all the important information on the stones for Martin and his family and I hope the same will be true for David and wife. Thanks Dan Burrows Otisville NY

I know what you mean, Annette. My Harrisons, and others that lived in the "English Settlement" near Rome Twp. arrived in the 1830's. I don't think there were any photos before 1860 in that area. I have one photo of a Crawford Co. father and son from sometime in the 1860's, but not from the Harrison branch, unfortunately. But, I'm assuming that the photographer was the traveling type that went to the towns and farm houses looking for customers, so I figure that it's very possible that there's some photos out there of other families from that same time period. You could ask the HS archivist/director, Laura Polo, but since the original naturalizatioh papers are available at the court house, just half a block away, the HS may not want to take up space with duplicates. Unfortunately, a lot of us have ancestors who immigrated too early to have had photos taken! I have Andrew Jackson Shontz and Lucinda Smith - some back information on Lucinda if you are interested (her mother was a LUPHER, which is one of my families). It's on my website, below. I do not have anything on Shontz except Andrew Jackson's name and dates (1833-19 Sep 1905) and I did not even know they had a daughter, so I can't help you with Adelbert. I have no Waids. The 1870 census for Venango Boro shows Ann L., age 9, a daughter of Aaron D, and Mary (Harriott) Straw. It is possible that she died young, but also possible that by 1880, though under 19, she might have married. She DID NOT marry Willard Whitten, as some lists claim. Does anyone have any information on this young woman? Thanks, Dick ---------------------------- Richard M. Straw Talent, OR 97540 <[email protected]>
