Hi Bob- There is a John Brown Museum at Guys Mills, PA. I found this article in a Kansas newspaper http://www.cjonline.com/stories/041502/kan_johnbrown.shtml The Historical Society in Kent, Ohio has a nice website, http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Park/9580/brown.html, which tells his story and has a picture of his birthplace here in Connecticut - in Torrington. This site says he moved out of Crawford County because his tannery was not successful. It also contains much genealogy information about John Brown's ancestors and children. I can't remember the exact reason but I think it was to join his father and family in Ohio. John Brown got around, lived several different places. I think he was born in upstate New York, moved to Ohio with his father as a child. One of his wives, second one I think, was from Crawford Co. At one time I took a bit of interested because during his Crawford period he lived about a half mile from my ancestors, near Townville - my 3ggm Elizabeth Perkins Crouch was widowed young and became a "tailoress" to support her children; she is said to have once mended John Brown's trousers. This was before he was famous of course. He lived in Crawford Co about 10 years as I recall, 1830s or thereabouts. I have a couple of books on him and can look up more if you are interested but it may take a couple of days, I am behind on everything right now. Jan
To add to the Consider family - Joseph G. was the son of Jean Gabriel Considere, originally from Servigney, Dept. of Doubs, France. Jean Gabriel arrived as a single man, from the port of Le Havre, France, to the port of New York, 3 June 1840, ship "Concordia." I think I have his birth somewhere in my records, if you are interested. Joseph G. married, apparently as a second marriage, Josephine Dupont, daughter of Del and Francoise Dupont. Josephine was born about 1853, in either PA or NY. Her parents had emigrated from France, about 1846/47. We are still trying to trace that family in France. Happy New Year Everybody: I received a Fantastic Christmas Present this year. It is the Hallmark Family Tree Stand and Photo Frames. If you haven't seen it yet, go to Ebay.Com and type in Hallmark Family Tree in the search area. There you should be able to see the Tree Stand (which you can hang on the wall or stand on a table, etc.)and the 15 photo frames that go with it. Some have gemstones on them. Cute, Cute, Cute! I understand that it is sold out at the Hallmark Stores but maybe you will be lucky enough to still find one. Now, I need your Help. I need pictures of some of my ancestors. Would anybody happen to have pictures of the following people: Richard Adsit 1809-1889 and/or wife Rebecca Burch/Birch Wm V. Hood 1830-1907and/or wife Harriet Mushrush 1840-1910 George Mushrush 1817-1897 and/or wife Rebecca Garwood 1823-1889 Samuel Axtell Mattocks 1838-1907 and/or wife Abigail Clarinda Grinnell 1850-1914 Benjamin Grinnell 1811-1890 and/or wife Lucinda Staley Samuel Extel Mattocks and/or wife Mary "Polly" Gaskell Josiah Gibson 1801-1883 and/or wife Susan Whiting 1821-1900 It would be like Christmas again if anybody has any photos of these grandparents of mine. Thank you for checking. Bev

http://penncrest.iu5.org/WebPages/MHS/Students/GrassRoots/Richmond.htm Has a picture from a post card of the tannery. Also, the John Brown Heritage Association still is in control of the site. The museum is being ran by Gary and Donna Coburn. They are very willing to discuss the site with any interested person. They've had inquiries and visitors from all over the United States. They can be reached at 1-814-967-2099.
