    3. One of the other things to remember is you can be very creative using this index. For example: I was looking for my gg-grandmother's brother Albert VANOMMEN in New York State and couldn't find him. Since I knew he should be in Auburn, Cayuga County, NY, I entered that location and only his first-name Albert. I found him (and his wife and four daughters) indexed with the surname VANONEMEN. As an unexpected plus, I found 6-year-old Albert WHITE, who twenty years into the future was married to my grandmother's first cousin Bertha MARKS. 3. Hi Bob- You've probably heard by now that the LDS website is http://familysearch.org. On the left hand menu you'll see "US 1880, British and Canadian 1881 Censuses " I' ve been using the 1880 census quite a lot, and I've found that the search function, being based on transcriptions, is sometimes unsuccessful. I finally found one family by searching on the wife's name instead of the husband - and sometimes the children's names are more successful. Also, you may not want to limit it to one particular state and county, since you could be wrong about that. After you find the person you're looking for, look at the right hand side of the screen and click on "household" to see the rest of the family and other data. You can also explore the neighborhood by clicking "previous household" and "next household." Enjoy! 3. OK, here's the scoop: 1) Go to familysearch.org 2) Click on the "Search" tab at the top. 3) In the left side of the page, click on "Census" 4) There will now be a place where you have to say which census (1880 U.S., 1881 British, or 1881 Canadian). Click on 1880 U.S. and wait for it to load. 5) Enter the info about your ancestor. I'd enter as little as possible, considering the inaccuracies of censuses. Like, first and last name, and the place you think they were living in 1880. The search will return possibilities, and you click on them (if there's more than one!) until you find the right family. Good Luck!! Let me know privately if you need more help. 3. Just wanted to add that it has an every-name index, so you don't need to know someone's parents to find them in the census. I have several Watson families all mixed up together and can't find any information on my great-great grandfather, John Wesley Watson -- at this point, all I have is his name as the father of William R.
