    1. ([PACRAWFO])MANSFIELD Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Frank MANSFIELD which was taken at the W. F. Stuart Studio in Meadville, PA. The photograph is dated Feb 1890 and Frank appears to be 10-14 years old at the time. In addition to his name and the date, someone has written "cum amore ex France" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Frank and his family: Frank MANSFIELD was the son of Adelwin H. MANSFIELD and Mary C. ALLEN (1854-1936). Frank died in 1955 in Meadville, PA. Census records provide the following information: 1880 census of Meadville, PA: Adelwin MANSFIELD, age 29, a Telegraph Operator, born NY, parents born NY Mary MANSFIELD, wife, age 27, born OH, parents born OH Frank MANSFIELD, son, age 10 months, born PA I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. ([PACRAWFO])Hugh Morris/Cassiah Ralya
    2. Elizabeth Macdonald
    3. All I know about Hugh Morris is from the Orphans Court Records Book B Pg. 387 - Petition of Rachel E. Morris, minor child of Hugh Morris, dec'd. for leave to choose a guardian.  June 1, 1847, Court approve of choice of Jacob Strayer as guardian. Rachel Morris was my 2nd great-grandmother.  She was born Apr. 16, 1835, married to Castle Wescott and died Oct. 26, 1916.  I knew that her mother was Cassiah Ralya, daughter of David and Rebecca Sarah Gardner Ralya and that Cassiah was to have been married to a Morris. My questions are - who was this Hugh Morris, was he from Ireland, when did he die?  On Cassiah, when did she marry Hugh and when did she die? They are both a complete mystery to me. Would love to hear from anyone who knows of them. Thank you, Elizabeth (Betty) Macdonald

    1. ([PACRAWFO])Re: Surname Shout Out: Barnes/Seely
    2. John Barnes
    3. My information on the BARNES line starts with WILLIAM BARNES and wife REBECCA, who according to census records lived in Spring Township, Crawford County from 1840 to 1870.  Both are buried in Conneautville Cemetary, and I have photos of the gravestones.  I believe they lived in New York state prior to 1840, but so far have no documentation to back that up. From comparing census records, I believe they had five children: Sarah, Joseph, Caleb, Anna, and John.  My Barnes line goes through JOHN EDWARD BARNES, born c. 1851. The Meadville EVENING REPUBLICAN reported on John's marriage to ADELINE SEELY on 24 August 1876, at the Meadville home of his brother Caleb.  Other than that announcement saying she also lived in Spring Township, I have nothing else on the Seely family. The 1880 Crawford County census lists John as a photographer, and I have documentation that his son BRUCE EDWARD BARNES was born in Conneautville on 27 April 1880.  Backtracking from a 1914 obituary for Joseph, I find that John and his wife had moved to Huntington, West Virginia, by 1905.  I have nothing on John and Adeline's location or activities from 1880 to 1905. I also have images of relevant portions of a family genealogy written in 1984 by Clarissa Ruth Barnes Smart, descended from William and Rebecca's son Joseph.  Unfortunately, Clarissa seems to have taken some liberties with birth order in her source material. And my DNA tests showed no connection to the colonial Barnes families she cited as ancestors. Any additional information and/or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you - John Barnes, now living outside Charlotte, NC.

    1. ([PACRAWFO])Re: PACRAWFO Digest, Vol 12, Issue 2
    2. Gary Hernon
    3. This is a "shout out" for any and all information on my GG grandfather, James Augustine Hernon Sr, and/or his Wife Mary King. There were a family of Kings 2 houses away in, I think, the 1850 or 60 census. His farm was about 8 acres on what is now a state college fishery on Lake Pymatuming in Linesville. He was a big RR guy. Any Ancestry info concerning his parents, or Mary's are mine, so I am looking for anything different someone might have. Obituary, Linesville, Pa (Newspapers: Linesville Herald clippings, c. 1878-1956 - Part II: Crawford Co, PA) In Memory of James HERNON - James Hernon was born November 20, 1824, in Craghan county, Tipperary, Ireland. At the age of 11 years he expoused the cause of temperance by joining Father Matthew's Temperance Society and during his long and useful life, adhered strictly to the principles of sobriety. When a young man he came to this country and engaged in the railroad business on maintenance-of-way and his many anecdotes concerning his experience, from the time of strap iron and wooden rails to the present were truly interesting. He married Miss Mary King of Linesville, Crawford county, Pa., in 1855, to whom were born nine sons and two daughters, and is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters - James, of Sharpsville, Pa.; Frank, of Petrolia, Pa.; Thomas and Gustin, of Elulalia; Mrs. James Mills, of Warren and Sister Eulalia of St. Joseph's Convent, Erie. He moved from Linesville to Sheffield Junction in 1884 to take charge of work on the P&W which was then being built through the vast forests of Forest and Erie counties and continued in their employ until age required him to put work in younger hands. He was postmaster at Elulalia (Sheffield Junction) for several years. Mr. Hernon was a man pleasant to meet, a kind father, an obliging neighbor, honest citizen, true Christian, and the bereaved family may surely feel while they sorrow here, he peacefully rests over there. Thanks, James G Hernon On Fri, Jun 1, 2018 at 1:12 PM, <pacrawfo-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: > Send PACRAWFO mailing list submissions to > pacrawfo@rootsweb.com > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via email, send a message with subject or > body 'help' to > pacrawfo-request@rootsweb.com > > You can reach the person managing the list at > pacrawfo-owner@rootsweb.com > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of PACRAWFO digest..." > > Today's Topics: > > 1. 1. ([PACRAWFO])Shoutout: Sarah Moore
    2. Sarah Moore is my 3x Great Grandmother.  I have nothing on her parents.  I see from some family trees some people think she was born in CT and that is possible because her husband, Henry Reed, is shown as being born in Simsbury CT. Thanks for any help. SARAH MOORE was born in 1793 in Hartford County, Connecticut, USA. She died in 1860 inCrawford, Pennsylvania, USA. She married Henry Reed, son of David Reed and Sarah Wild, in 1820. He was born on 24 Jul 1791 in Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut, USA. He died on 14 Apr 1856 in Meadville, Crawford, Pennsylvania, USA. Notes for Henry Reed: Henry and his family don't appear in any US Census reports before 1830. Henry and Sarah's oldest child, Hiram, is shown to be born in New York but the next child, Coreesta, is born 31 Jan 1822 in Mead, Crawford, PA. So it can be assumed that sometime after 1820 the family moved to the area. Henry Reed and Sarah Moore had the following children: 2. i. HENRY J.2 REED JR. was born on 10 Jan 1817 in Oneida, New York, USA. He died on 18 Aug 1883 in Wabasha, Minnesota, USA. He married Diantha C. Bly on 06 Aug 1839 in Crawford, Pennsylvania, USA (Married). She was born on 19 Dec 1820 in Indiana, USA. She died on 31 Jan 1891 in Rochelle, Ogle, Illinois, USA. 3. ii. HIRAM MOORE REED was born on 16 Mar 1820 in New York, USA. He died on 27 Mar 1873 in Lake City, Wabasha, Minnesota, USA. He married Calfine Roff, daughter of Henry Roff and Clementina Brown, on 08 May 1841. She was born on 14 Nov 1823 in Ontario, New York, USA. She died on 19 Oct 1906 in Lake City, Wabasha, Minnesota, USA. 4. iii. CORRESTA REED was born on 31 Jan 1822 in Meadville, Crawford, Pennsylvania, USA. She died on 12 Feb 1876 in Meadville, Crawford, Pennsylvania, USA. She married BENJAMIN BROWN MD. He was born in 1821 in Meadville, Crawford, Pennsylvania, USA. He died on 10 Feb 1861 in Meadville, Crawford, Pennsylvania, USA. 5. iv. SAPHRONIA REED was born in 1824 in Crawford, Pennsylvania, USA. She died in Crawford, Pennsylvania, USA. She married William Harrison Roff, son of Henry Roff and Clementina Brown, in 1840. He was born in 1820 in Ontario, New York, USA. 6. v. ORLANDO F REED was born about 1827 in Pennsylvania, USA. He died on 27 Jun 1902 in Crawford, Pennsylvania, USA. He married VIRGINIA A. HOTCHKISS. She was born about 1827 in Massachusetts, USA. She died after 1880 (unknown). vi. WILLIAM H REED was born in 1829. He died in 1846. 7. vii. CLARISSA REED was born on 01 Sep 1837 in Meadville, Crawford, Pennsylvania, USA. She married Zina R. Bancroft in 1859. He was born on 11 Mar 1838 in Nelson, Portage, Ohio, USA. He died in Nelson, Portage, Ohio, USA (in 1880).

    1. [PACRAWFO] Adamsville, PA / Rocky Glen Cemetery

    3. Adamsville is a very small rural community. I have found the local post office is likely your best starting place for info. Perhaps you might learn the name of the cemetery caretaker from the kind folks at the post office. 3. Hi, I read your post and I thought of a couple things that might be helpful. Just as an FYI, not sure if you're aware of this every grave is not listed in Find-A-Grave, only the ones which a volunteer has taken the time to photograph and upload to the website along with typing in the data. Another site you can check is for possible listings of burials is Billiongraves.com. I personally haven't found anyone there but others I know have and I've heard good things about it at genealogy conferences. I was surprised to find that Adamsville has a population of around 75 people. No wonder there is no phone number! You might want to try to contact a funeral home in the area, not necessarily in Adamsville, for additional information. I couldn't locate a funeral home there but was able to find a place which offers cremation services. No address was given on their website, but it did indicate they were in Adamsville: Heritage Cremation Provider, LLC Toll Free: 1-800-972-2070 Fax: 1-800-699-9181 info@heritage-cremation.com Not sure if you are near here or plan to visit in the future. But just in case, I googled the cemetery and here are the directions (as if you were in Adamsville) and heading towards Rocky Glen Cemetery. You would head east on Adamsville Road toward Main Street. In 50 feet turn right on to PA-18 S/ Main Street. In 0.4 miles turn right on to Rocky Glen Road, go .06 miles and arrive at Rocky Glen Cemetery. I hope this info is useful. Good luck on your search. 1. [PACRAWFO] James Lanton, 1800 census of Crawford County PA
    2. Can anyone identify or place the James Lanton who appears in the 1800 census of Crawford County? Since he appears just below Elizabeth Murray in the enumeration, he most likely lived in the neighborhood of Meadville. He and his wife were over 45, and they had younger men, most likely sons, in their household. Many thanks for your help, and best wishes to you.
