Looking for anyone researching the family of Peter Vanetta from Bloomsburg, PA or the Samuel VanAtta family, also from the Bloomsburg area. I would guess they were born in the mid to late 1700's. Just found the connection with my Risewick family. Peter Vanetta, (born in mid to late 1700's?),, Peter died before April 14, 1832 according to a land deed that I have. The deed states that Peter and his wife Catherine had 6 children who were living at the time of Peter's death. 1. Samuel, died before April 1832 2. Peter, married to Rosina 3. Sophie, married to Valentine BIDLEMAN 4. Mary, married to John RISEWICK 5. Catherine 6. Elizabeth Catherine Vanatta, widow of Peter was still living in 1850 when she was listed in her son-in-law, Valentine BIDLEMAN's household: 1850 US Census, Bloom, Columbia, PA; page 319 Valentine BIDLEMAN, age 54, Male Farmer $9,000 RE, born PA Sophia BIDLEMAN, age 40 Anna R. BIDLEMAN, age 24 Ellis BIDLEMAN, age 22 Maria BIDLEMAN, age 18 Rame?y BIDLEMAN, age 13, Male Eliz. BIDLEMAN, age 10 Mary BIDLEMAN, age 7 Maria RISEWICK, age 6, born PA Jason ALBERTIONS, age 20, Male, Farmer Cath VANATTA, age 86, born PA __________________ Additional notes. The Michael Shoemaker Book shows the first wife of John Risewick as Margaret VANATTA, daughter of Samuel VANATTA. According to a gravestone (which shows her name as Anna Margaret Risewick) in Old Rosemont Cemetery she died in Nov. 1832. Either the Michael Shoemaker book has the wrong information (Mary, instead of Margaret, and wrong parent info) or the death date of November 1832 is wrong. I'm starting to suspect that the death date is incorrect. Is there any record kept of WHEN a gravestone was placed on a grave?? >From my own records I know that John married as his second wife, Mary. Mary was born November 03, 1803, and died May 18, 1849 in Bloomsburg. Mary's sister Catherine married John Risewick's brother, Jacob. Catherine was born September 10, 1810 and she died in May 1849 as well. Could this be the single Catherine VanAtta listed in the land deed, be the Catherine who married Jacob Risewick, about 1832? The Maria Risewick listed in the 1850 census with Valentine Bidleman is the daughter of Jacob Risewick and his wife Catherine. If this Catherine was the daughter of Peter Vanatta, then her living with the Bidleman family would make sense, as Valentine Bidleman would be her uncle. Anyone with further clues?????
