Howard, When you downloaded the file, FTM opened it as you asked it to do. It didn't replace your own family file on your hard disk, it just opened up the new file within the program for viewing. You would then have been able to go to File on the menu bar within the FTM program and clicked "Open Family File..." Then you would have gotten a window with whatever *.ftw files you have and if you double clicked on the one you wanted, that file would have then replaced the downloaded one you were viewing. Tell us more about the shortcut you created. Was it a shortcut to FTM or directly to your personal file (as in to "personalfile.ftw")? Is this a shortcut you had created on your desktop?
