Hi, I was going to search the 1810 US Census at Ancestry.com, which is said to be complete, but I cannot find Columbia County listed. Did the county have a different name in 1810? I don't find Montour County either. I found Northumberland County but that does not seem to include all of the places I thought existed in Columbia County. John
Daniel (b. July, 1857) & Lydia A. (b. Dec. 1855) had 8 children: Charles (b Dec 1882) Hester?? (b. Dec 1883) Lilly (b. June 1886) John (b. May 1887) Alice (b. June 1889) Sarah (b. June 1891) Mabel (b. July 1893) Robert (b. ?? 1896) I believe John was my ggrandfather. Any information on this family will be appreciated very much. Hi List Members, I'm searching for a person who died in Luzerne Co., PA in December 1906 and was transported to Catawissa, Columbia Co, PA for interment. His death certificate should have been on record at Vital Records in New Castle, PA. (January 1906 is when death records were centralized in New Castle.) However, they indicated no record is on file. Does anyone know if a Columbia Co. Clerk maintained a "Transient Death Record Index" of individuals who died in one county and were buried in another county? Thanks in advance for your help. Jim
Dear Folks: Does anyone know if the 1840 census is indexed? Specifically I am looking for one Charles FREY (or FRY) who would have been about age 26 in 1840 and living in Catawissa Township or possibly in Berwick. There is a possibility that his name was spelled Carl FREY or Karl FREY. He married Anna Margaret Hartzel in 1840 and then moved to Nescopeck, Luzerne County. Thank you, Fred Researching FREY family in Catawissa Township early 1800s to mid 1800s.
Hi All, I do not know if this type of posting is allowed on the list. If not, I apologoze to everyone in advance and I will not post anything like it again. If it is allowed, here goes. In response to a few e-mails I posted about a couple of Luzerne County cemeteries, I have received a several e-mails asking me to walk cemeteries and take pictures of stones. These requests came after e-mails back and forth as I mentioned I take pictures of stone, which I believe a lot of people do, to document my information, and in conversation I have been asked to take pictures for them. No problem. I was happy to do so, but I guess by word of mouth I have been getting numerous requests (6 different surnames this weekend alone). I did not realize how many people out there are not in the area and want pictures of their ancestors stones. I am now getting requests for cemeteries that I do not even have family in. I am still more than happy to help if I can, as many others have been very helpful in trading information with me, but the time I am spending walking through cemeteries looking for the families of others has been more than I ever thought it would be. As I am spending so much of my free time walking cemeteries at this point because I do not want to say no to anyone. I know how exciting it is to fill in some missing information or add a somewhat undisputable source to the information you already have. I think I have come up with a solution that should make everyone happy. This is the part that I am not sure will be allowed on the list: If I charge a small fee, it will help to offset my time and gas. In return I will not only take pictures of the names you request but any other stones that I find in that cemetery with the same surname as it may be helpful somewhere down the road. I will send them via e-mail. This is what I figure: $5.00 per cemetery that I am familiar with that I can find the stones right away. $10.00 per cemetery that I do not know and have to spend a bit of time walking through. $15.00 per cemetery that are VERY large (mainly city cemeteries) as it takes quite a while to walk these, especially if I am not famliar with them 1. I will not charge ahead of time, only after the pictures are taken and have been sent to you. I believe that most researchers are honest, besides, stiffing me now means no more help in the future. 2. I have a digital camera so there will be no charge for the pictures. 3. You can request several surnames per cemetery at no charge. Like I said, I only wish to offset my time and gas, and in doing so I may be able to help many others out there find some missing links. 3. Let me know what names you want and what cemetery they are in and I will see what I can do for you. Since I will be doing this after work and during some weekend time, I will take requests in the order they come in and as I can get to them, as I think this is going to open me up to a flood of requests. Please be patient. Again, if this type of e-mail is frowned upon, my apologies. I would like to take this oppurtunity to THANK everyone who has responded to and traded information with me. Good luck and happy hunting!!!!! Wanted to update you all on recent developments on the search for the parents of Samuel YETTER b. abt 1760. I have been in contact with Donovan Scott another descendent of Sam. He too is in the opinion that Sam was the son of John Jetter and Dorothea Schade who married 29 Dec 1754 in the Germantown Reformed Church. John paid taxes in Whitemarsh Twsp Phil. Cty 1769-1783. This is in the area where Samuel pd taxes in the early 1780s. Have any of you pursued this possibility and if so an results? This is conjecture on our part. Don is descended from the Fenstermacher line via Mary Magdelena Yetter b. 1816, dau of Samuel (Jr) b. 1788 son of our oldest known Samuel. I have a printout of descendancy chart which I have yet to compare to my files. Bruce Starner Yetter Hackettstown, NJ
