As a St Louis Missouri resident, is there a way to get the death cert request form via email or snail mail? I am trying to get the death certificate on Marjorie Ellen Stroup (wife of Jacob Stroup) who is currently buried at Canby Cemetery. According to her tombstone, she was born February 1850 and died October 14, 1902. I have not been able to find any information about her - her maiden name is still unknown. Any advice/help would be appreciated. Darryl

Does anyone know where the records from St. Ignatius Church that use to be in Centralia are being kept or where the diocese headquarters are for that area? Also what are the courthouse hours in Bloomsburg and are the death certificates located there? Karyn, the explosions were the result of attempting steamboat travel on the susquehanna thru Berwick. In 1826 before the canal was built. The first attempt with a 60 ft by 9 ft with a sheet iron hull was successful. The second attempt involved a larger vessel 80by 14 ft with an Iron hull. It was tried at high water because the river has a high ridge & shallows that forces the water into a narrow channel near the Berwick side. this is refered to as the Nescopeck falls or rapids. There is also a large tublike hole just under the new bridge, The hole has higher rock on the upstream side which causes the water to rush in from the Nescopeck side of the hole and creates a violent eddy altogether a very tricky situation to navigate. Most of the year navigation is impossible but the hope was that the high waters would allow navigation The steamboat grounded and because someone was holding down the safety valve the steamengine blew up with many injured and some deaths. The boat was not badly damaged but two men were killed instantly by the escaping steam and many other scalded. The accident put an end to the idea and the failure of steamboat passage led to renewed interest in a canal which was begun not many years later. There is a fuller account in the Historical & Biographical annals of Columbia & Montour co by Battle vol 1 p 42 and p 152. Recently in the Pine Cemetery in Berwick I found 2 headstones of young men that were killed from the explosion of a steamboat on the river. In all the Genealogy I have done, I have never come across this information. I would appreciate some info if anyone has it. I am Karyn Long and my address used to be nanny@sunlink for all of those out there that I was in contact with. It is no karyn47@ptd.net. Thanks Karyn

This cemetery was located behind the Lutheran Church, which still stands on N Market Street. > The cemetery was behind the church on N Center and W First Streets. Records would probably be available at the Old Rosemont Cemetery. There is an old section in the cemetery. If you are going to visit it-- be aware that the whole cemetery is located on several hills- and there is a cliff at the very top, so be cautious if it is raining. Have fun searching... I have a map of the cemeteries that are in Columbia County. I bought this from the Historical Society in Bloomsburg. The only one that is even close is the Lutheran Ce, but it is in North Centre Twp, according to this pam it is located off Route 93. Did you try the historical Society in Bloomsburg? Anna

I would like to welcome those of you new to this site and tell you there are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are more that 4274 prisoners on record from the state of Pennsylvania and more than 1800 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of some 13000 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. I will be travailing from Indianapolis to PA on the 19. Hope to spend several days researching my roots. I have traced my Shermans from Stowe to Ringtown and Beaver Twp. I will stay in Bloomsburg at least one night. I have a solid connection back to George J Sherman 1840-1901 & Sarah (Hunsinger) Sherman and their 12 children. Before that I am uncertain. If anyone has some tips as to where I should go and see. Or has any information to share please let me know. Also if anyone wants to meet up with me that would be fine. Thanks and take care, Warren Sherman
