    1. MCCONAGHAY Family, 1870-1900's
    2. Wendy Wiseman
    3. Hello listers... I would be very interested in finding out more about any parts of this family. Especially death dates, so I could order death certs and hopefully determine their exact place of origin from Ireland. Below is all the information I've collected so far on them. It's been so difficult to do any searches on them, because there are just too many ways to spell the name, and not many search places have Soundex. (The above spelling is what I'm settling on for now.) If anyone can help, I would be extremely grateful! Thanks in advance... Wendy Wiseman (liseg@crosswinds.net) - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1870 -- Leidy Twp, ClintonCo, PA MCCONAHY, Jas 42 Ireland (b 1828) Anna J. 36 Ireland (b 1834) Annie 20 Ireland (b 1850) Margaret 18 Ireland (b 1852) James 7 Ireland (b 1863) John 5 Ireland (b 1865) There's only one thing wrong with this picture. Annie (Agnes) was married the year before (20 AUG 1869 by Arthur E. Clement) in her parent's home to John McCracken. (It's even said in her widow's pension that there is no civil or church record of the marriage.) Where is he, and why isn't she living with him? His parents had been living in Sullivan Co from 1850-1870. 1880 -- Leidy Twp, ClintonCo, PA MCCONAGHAY, James 65 Ireland (b 1815) Annie J. 47 Ireland (b 1833) James 16 Ireland (b 1864) John 14 Ireland (b 1866) Now Margaret's gone. Who did she marry, if at all? Notice how James' birth year drastically changes? 1880 -- Leidy Twp, ClintonCo, PA MCCRACKEN, John 42 NY (b 1838) Annie 29 Ireland (b 1851) Edward L. 8 PA (b 1872) Mary E. 7 PA (b 1873) Maggie 5 PA (b 1875) Alice 3 PA (b 1877) Clarence 1 PA (b 1879) Just a few pages away from her parents is daughter Agnes, now finally living with her husband. Alice married Vicorus S. Hulett as his 2nd wife and moved to StevensCo, WA. Maggie (Margaret) married Charley Clymer, later moved to WA and married Ernest Hulett, the son of her sister's husband's 1st marriage. 1900 -- Renovo Borough, ClintonCo, PA MCCONAGHY, James 89 MAR 1811 M 50 Ireland 1850 50 Na (b 1811) Jane 76 MAY 1824 M 50 Ireland 1860 40 (b 1824) James 37 MAY 1863 S PA (b 1863) I haven't found John by himself in this year. He either died or moved somewhere else, not in PA. And again, James gets older. And those dates of immigration to the US are impossible, if their kids were born in Ireland between 1850-1865. Still no known port of arrival, or exact place of origin. Where would his naturalization papers be located? 1900 -- Jones Twp, ElkCo, PA MCCRACKEN, John 63 DEC 1836 M 31 NY (b 1836) Agnes 49 DEC 1850 M 31 Ireland 1866 33 (b 1850) Clarence E. 21 OCT 1878 S PA (b 1878) Emma 14 FEB 1886 S PA (b 1886) Annie 9 AUG 1890 S PA (b 1890) Cecil E. 7 OCT 1892 S PA (b 1892) Now daughter Agnes and family have moved away to another county. NOV 1903 -- Pension Affidavit MCCONAUGHA, James 92 (b 1811) MCCONAUGHA, Jane 87 (b 1816) They made statements for their daughter Agnes' widow's pension. They must have died sometime between this date and the 1910 census. But when exactly, and what cemetary are they buried in? 1910 -- St. Marys Borough, ElkCo, PA MCCRACKEN, Agnes Mrs. 58 W 11 8 Ireland 1870 (b 1852) Emma 24 S PA (b 1886) Anna 19 S PA (b 1891) Cecil 17 S PA (b 1983) Her husband has died. But she's only about 17 pages away from her brother James. 1910 -- St. Marys Borough, ElkCo, PA MCCONAGHAY, James 43 M1 7 Ireland 1880 Na (b 1867) Lucinda 27 M1 7 4 4 PA (b 1883) Mary E. 6 S PA (b 1904) James A. 4 S PA (b 1906) Anna B. 2 S PA (b 1908) Thomas W. 8/12 S PA (b 1909) Here's their son James with his family. He's not remembering that he was already in the States in 1870, so he couldn't have just arrived in 1880. He's a little younger than he should be, also. 1920 -- Renovo Twn, Renovo Borough, ClintonCo, PA HUMES, Charles A. 33 PA (b 1887) Anna 28 PA (b 1892) Jack 7 PA (b 1913) Herbert 3 PA (b 1917) Charles 4/12 PA (b 1919) MCCRACKEN, Agnes 69 Ireland (b 1851) Now Agnes is living with her married daughter, on the same street as her brother, only half a sheet apart. Did she die in this town before 1930? Or did she live to be counted in that Census? 1920 -- Renovo Twn, Renovo Borough, ClintonCo, PA MCCONAGHAY, James 52 Ireland 1880 Na 1886 (b 1868) Lucinda 36 PA (b 1884) Mary 16 PA (b 1904) James 13 PA (b 1907) Anna 12 PA (b 1908) Thomas 10 PA (b 1910) Gladice 8 PA (b 1912) Alva 6 PA (b 1914) William 2 6/12 PA (b 1917) I'll hope that he's still alive in 1930. And where would his naturalization papers be located?
