    3. Shotgun - Absolutely not. I received the list of Bartleys from a lady named Gloria who was kind enough to take the time from her own projects to check the Ross Library. As Gloria was obviously a busy lady, I thanked her and asked for no further assistance. I contacted several e-mail addresses at the local newspaper asking if I could obtain copies of past articles (The obits from the Ross Library list). I never heard from anybody. I contacted the Ross library and asked if I could obtain copies from them. I never heard from them either. I contacted one J.K. Houser about one (1) obit and didn't hear from him. I contacted you about the other articles and, after not hearing from J.K. Houser about the last one, asked you to do that one also. The only reason I would ask ANYBODY to look up five articles is that I understand they are all available in the same place - the library. I would not presume to ask a bunch of people to run around for the same purpose. I also would not presume to ask one person to run all over twelve counties for any purpose. I am sorry to have offended you. So many people volunteer under "Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness" and never reply. I have, in the past, waited weeks before trying other avenues. Apparently this was not the case this time. I have subscribed to the Clinton County and the Centre County Rootsweb mailing lists and posted the Bartleys under the "Does anybody know them" theory. I understand some of these lists do have volunteers but, to date, I have not contacted them for any reason. Again, I am very sorry to have offended you and would not ask anyone to do something which you have already indicated you would do. Also, when you contact others in this area, I would like to know who, so we can touch base with each other to avoid duplicate effort. This is a small town and "everyone knows everyone"! > > Bob Schadt > > > > Outhier wrote: > > > Hello, > > > > Looking for family of BARTLEY, Alvin Wesley (b. @1859, d. 3/13/1927) and wife Abbie Maude Battner (b. @1859, d. 11/3/1934). Both born in PA. Resided in Lock Haven from at least 1880 until their deaths. I understand Charles' wife died when the children were very young. TORRENCE is believed to have lived with one grandparent for a short period of time and was then placed in some sort of boys/foundling/orphan home. I believe this foundling home was in the Clinton/Centre/Lycoming area. He surfaced in Omaha, NE in his adulthood. > > > > Hoping someone will recognize a name (or the foundling home). > > > > Good luck with all of your searches, > > > > C.
