Diane, According to "History of Cameron County," Curtis Media Corp. 1991, pg 3: "Lumber township was an original township which was formed while a part of Lycoming County and named because of its forests. It was included in Clinton County when the latter was formed in 1839. There wasn't any change made in the township during the twenty-one years it was a part of Clinton County. When Cameron County was formed in 1860, Lumber township was included within its boundaries." Lumber township has increased in size since it became part of Cameron County. A portion of Shippen and of Portage townships were annexed in 1867 and 1869, respectively.
