    1. Information on Boonesville
    2. Louise Price
    3. I'm trying to locate my Boone ancestors. My Great Uncle says they came from Loganton, PA area. Is or was Loganton in Clinton County in the 1800's. Where is Boonesville? Does anyone know where I could locate records for that area. Does Clinton County have a Historical Society? The people I'm searching are John Boon Children: 1. Jacob W. Boone--1818-1890 +Elizabeth (Bickle) Boone-1826-1888 2. Mary Boone 3. Magdelena Boone 4. Andrew Jackson Boone Thanks for any help. Louise Boone Price

    1. Re: Information on Boonesville
    2. Louise, Booneville is in Logan Township, Clinton County, PA. Referring to John Blair Linn's History of Centre and Clinton Counties, Pennsylvania (Philadelphia: Louis H. Everts & Co., 1883), p. 645, we find the following: BOONEVILLE is located on the main or "Summerside" road leading through the valley, about two and a half miles west of Logansville, on the north side of Fishing Creek. The land on which it is located originally belonged to the Wistar tract, and was purchased in 1834 by Dr. Samuel Strohecker, of Rebersburg, Centre Co. Subsequently it was divided and sold to different individuals, that portion on which the village stands passing into the hands of John and Ralph Boone, by whom lots were first laid out and sold in 1866. Hence the name "Booneville." The place now contains about thirty dwellings, some of them fine structures, among which are those of Reuben Moyer, Samuel Kahl, John B. Schrack, D. L. Bartges, J. L. Boone, William Strohecker, and B. F. Klepper. The only store is kept by Henry Wolf, who is the postmaster. The Grangers, in 1875, erected a fine hall opposite Wolf's Store, the first floor of which was used as a store-room. The grange is not now in operation. A shoe- and blacksmith-shop comprise the shops of the place. Surrounded as the village is by rich farming lands and pure air and water and a healthful climate, it affords a most desirable place of residence, where many of the neighboring farmers have settled on retiring from their farms, and erected fine houses in which to spend their days. Loganton, very near Booneville, was established in the year 1864. Pages 614 through 617 of the above book chronicle its history. The original name was Logansville. It is surrounded by Greene Township, Clinton County. Of the land of Logan and Greene Townships lie in the beautiful Sugar Valley. From June 21, 1839 these have been in Clinton County, PA, and records were recorded in the county seat at Lock Haven. From February 13, 1800 to June 21, 1839, the land was in Centre County and went by the various names of: Haines Twp. (1800-1817) Logan Twp. (1817-1840) Logan and Greene Twps. from 1840 The county seat of Centre County is at Bellefonte. >From 1772 to 1800, the land was in Northumberland County, PA (county seat: Sunbury, PA). Haines Township had existed from February, 1790. Prior to that time, it was Potter Township. As to societies and organizations, I recommend the Clinton County Genealogical Society, which occupies a P.O. Box in Castanea, PA. The president is Dan Reinhold, the vice-president Dave Wallace (who manages this list). I am a member and am affiliated with the cemetery project of the society. Hope this information is of some help to you! 3. In the 1800's a Hess family lived up Sugar Run (Bald Eagle Township). I am seeking information on them. So far I am speculating, with some basis in fact, that the family was as follows. I sure would like to have confirmation, additions, corrections. The birth dates are approximations. Jacob Hess 1782 Mary 1785 unknown female 1819 Phebe Ann 1821 married Benjamin Shaffer Eleanor 1823 married Harrison Yost Wallace 1825 Jacob 1828

    3. HI Everyone! The changes I posted yesterday are now available on the site. PLUS this great addition! Thanks to Mary Ellen Smith, we now have access to the 1870 Emporium Borough AND the Lumber township census online(also Portage and Grove TWP)! Please join me in thanking her! It takes a lot of hours to do this and I know it is a labor of love for her, but a few thank you's sure help! Thanks to those of you who responded to my request for ideas...I will be getting back to you about them! Mike Wennin Come Visit the Cameron County Genealogy Project! http://www.pa-roots.com/cameron

    1. Cameron County Genealogy Project updates
    2. Mike
    3. Hi All! Check the site for these updates in a few days. February 1, 2000 I had a nasty bout with the flu a week ago. I hope y'all are able to avoid it! It is way too cold in Georgia this winter!! I have uploaded 5 new photos (Check out our Olde Tyme Photo section!) and updated the Links section. Please let me know of any and all Cameron County related sites...lets get them all on here! The link to the Lord-Richey Farm has been fixed. Please let me know of any links that do not work. Mary Ellen Smith has uploaded the 1870 Lumber Township Census, but it does not seem to be posted yet. I will let you know when it is. She has also updated the Newton Cemetery listings...I will have them posted soon. Word is getting out about our site....traffic is increasing. Be sure to check the guest book, queries and Obituaries often for additions. I am disappointed that our Mailing List is so quiet! We are missing out on a great tool by not using it more. I hope to have an article to the Echo this month which will help increase traffic. I am not getting much response from the people who are living in Cameron County, so I hope the article will help. There is a TON of information there that I hope to be able to share with you some day! Still looking for ideas for the site...what would you like to see here? 1. Illinois Connections
    2. Hi all, This e-mail went to me as listowner of the PACENTRE list, rather than the list, but I am passing it on as I think it is of great value to Central PA researchers. So many of our ancestral families (mine included) had branches that went to Illinois and points west, especially to Stephenson County and surrounding areas. I have recently learned that in one of the towns out in Northern Illinois or Southern Wisconsin, the two main streets are "Centre" and "Clinton" streets! It seems that the geography of that region is very similar to what is in Central PA, i.e. limestone-rich soil, we are on (approximately) the same latitude, etc., that the transition was an easy one. Anyway, here is the notice of a chat being held tonight. Perhaps we can all learn something from the conversations there! 1. Stout marriages
    2. Ken & Dianne
    3. For those researching STOUT, there are several Stout marriages listed on the IL. marriage list at the following link: http://www2.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/marriage Also here are 2 that I found in Putnam Co, which are not on that marriage list: 1. Orange GAYLORD marr. SARAH ELIZABETH STOUT, on Oct. 12, 1843 in Putnam Co.IL., by George W. Miner 2. SAMUEL STOUT marr. Mary Ann WINTERS on Mar. 12, 1840 in Putnam Co., IL., by J. G. Laughlin Another interesting fact is that an EZRA STOUT was performing marriages in Putnam Co. in 1842. We know that Francis Summerson that married Lucinda Stout in Clinton Co., PA. took his wife and children and moved to IL. before 1860 and settled in the area of Fulton Co. IL. which is very near to Putnam Co. So the Stout that were in this area were most likely relations of Lucinda (Stout) Summerson.
