Ron, Not sure why the quotation marks were there. Maybe he went by the name of Royal and not Jesse as there were so many Jesse Halls. I seem to recall there was some controversy over wherre he was buried. Im my electronic data, I did not have a burial location for him. I hav not had the time to check for notes on him. I did, however think he was buried in North Bend. Dee, I do believe I am on tract, but not quite sure. This should open the door for me and some relatives. 1. Thomas BROOKS m Hannah ANDERSON b. Abt 1738 Tinicum Twp. Bucks Co. PA d. I would imagine that it comes from Lovina Anne Miller's line.
Here are the dates; however, to my knowledge, there are no longer ledgible markers (NM) indicating where in the cemetery they are buried. Bob, The dates for Jesse Jr. & Mary's deaths are the same-is that right? Just checking . . . Is the Old North Bend Cemetery the one that was down by the river? By the way, thanks to everyone for all the responses regarding the Hall family. I did receive an e-mail regarding Jesse W. Hall m. Elisa E. Hicks (see original query). Jesse W. Hall b. 11 Feb 1856 in Clinton Co., PA m. 21 Jan 1877 to Eliza E. Hicks. Jesse W. was the son of Jesse Jr's brother, Joseph Hall. Which brings up another Hall family question. Joseph Hall married Temperance STERLING. Anyone know who her parents were? I don't see her name in the William Sterling (of Sterling Run) family. First, to answer your question, Ron. When cousin Ruth first mailed me her line back to him, she had quotation marks on the Royal. So I thought it was suppose to be that way, & that is how I put it into the genealogy program. I can delete them. (smile!) Now you please be a sweetie and post the dates that you have for Jesse Jr. (both birth & death) for us, and was his wife buried beside him, and if so please post that too. So glad you took pictures! Ken and Dianne, I have a grandmother, Mary Margaret BROOKS married Jared WELSH b. March 11, 1762 in Bucks Co. b. Jan 24, 1748/49 in Ireland d. aft 1838 in Lock Haven, Clinton Co. PA d. July 18, 1828 in Lock Haven Another grandfather of mine was given the name of George BROOKS ELDRED from around Mill Hall and Beech Creek. Mary Margaret BROOKS would be his grandmother. Could this be the same Margaret BROOKS that was married to James Shaffer?
Why do you add quotation marks to Royal? I took a photo recently of his tombstone in North Bend Cemetery,Noyse Twp,Clinton, and Grant Cemetery,Benezett Twp,Elk,PA. Margaret Brooks married to James Shaffer was the daughter of Benjamin Brooks. Benjamin b. 11 Apr 1753 Tinicum Twp, Bucks Co, PA, d. 24 Dec 1838 at Huntley, in what is now Cameron Co, PA; daughter Margaret b. 29 Jan 1790 in Tinicum Twp, Bucks Co, or Philadelphia, PA, d. 20 Feb 1876 Grove Twp, in what is now Cameron Co., PA. I do think this is the same Brooks line. Mary Margaret's father is reported to be Thomas Brooks-Benjamin had a brother named Thomas. I've seen him on TV in some House of Rep's hearing or other. I have asked about the Courters in central Pennsylvania until I am blue in the face!! I have some information about recent generations in MY line since, once they got to Blanchard, Centre County, they stayed there for 150+ years!! From Peter through Abraham Sr, Abraham Jr, William Fearon, Franklin Lane (1), Franklin Thomas (my dad), to my brother, Franklin Lane (2), all have lived in that tiny little town and all but Peter and Abraham Sr have marked graves in one or the other cemetery!! Trouble is, I have no idea where Peter came from and I can't find any documantation the he is my ancestor for sure. All I know is that he was THERE at the right time and is the only one with the surname who is apparently there and whose age indicates he is most likely father to Abraham Sr. I get the impression that I am the only one looking for this line. I have found several others who have done Courter lines in New Jersey, Ohio, Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado, etc, but no one seems to have been able to make a connection to MY Courter's, even though there are several in Clinton, Centre and Lycoming Counties. I am really certain that we are ALL related, and very closely, but this has been denied by some people who ALSO look like MY Courter's!! Thanks for your interest!! I got that burial place from a file entitled "descendants of James Shaffer & Margaret BROOKS Shaffer", that was sent to me by Lois Jordon, who lives in a neighboring county to Clinton. I am showing two different death dates for Jesse Royal Hall Jr. Bob Schadt, could you please look in your cemetery book of North bend cem. and post to this list, the correct date of death for him. Hall info. has 21 Apr. 1865. The James Shaffer info. has 8 Dec. 1862. The James Shaffer info. also has an incorrect marriage date of 8 Apr. 1898 for Jesse Royal Hall & Mary Ann Shaffer. Hall info. has marriage as 8 Nov. 1838. Dianne Croak
Dear List, I am looking for any information concerning Courter or Corter surnames, especially prior to 1850. My Courter ancestors, at least after the early 1800's, lived in the Blanchard, Centre County, area, but before that, I don't really have much information. I think they came from Lycoming County, before that northern New Jersey, but no documentation. I would also like to hear about other lines, especially in the Williamsport and Lock Haven areas. Dee, In reference to Jesse Hall of Beach Creek, you may want to check with Mitchell Co. Historical Society in KS. The address is: MCHS @nckcn.com James Porter Eldred of Mill Hall went to Glen Elder, KS about the same time as your Jesse Hall. Since Mill Hall and Beech Creek are close and that people often went in groups, it is a stab in the dark that they may have gone to KS together. Good luck, Eldred
Does anyone know of a Jesse W. HALL b. Feb 11 1856, d. Aug 30, 1931? His wife Eliza E. b. Feb 11, 1858, d. Jan 10, 1940. Jesse was from Beech Creek, and somewhere along the line his family moved to Kansas, where he & Eliza are buried (in Inmon). Eliza E. is probably Eliza E. HICKS, d/o Reese S. & Mary Jane CONWAY HICKS of Cameron Co. I'm assuming that Jesse is descended from Jesse Royal HALL Sr, but don't have a clue who he belongs to. Thanks for any help you can give me. Dee
