    3. Dave & Carol, Recently, one of the mantles was offered to the Clinton County Historical Sociey for about $2,000. We could not afford to buy, dismantle and reassemble it. I forget what estate was selling it, but I believe the Bellefonte Historical Society bought it. Also, I forget what estate it was from , but Sharon Best, at the Clinton County Historical Society, could provide the complete details. Bob Carol Updegraff wrote: > Dear Dave, > > WOW!! 3. The Queens Mansion was built about a mile above Farrandsville, proper. There is an area, now mostly interupted by the railroad, that is elevated and level. To the best of my knowledge this was the location. There is a photo of it in a book called "A Picture of Clinton County" printed several years ago as a local text book, in charge of the book were the present Commissioners of the time and the WPA. The Ross Library has a copy of the book. Queen Isabella II's money was also the money for the Fallon Brothers to build the Fallon Hotel, which still stands on Water Street, one block west of the Courthouse. Mt Rainsaires, (I THINK) is located between Rote(Flatrock) and Loganton (Loganville), a very tall mountain, which is the home of most of the communication towers for our area. It can be seen quite well from route 880, and Interstate 80 at night with the towers are lit with red lights. At least I think that is the correct mountain. I am sure "Linns" "History Of Centre and Clinton Counties" would havesome info on the Queen/Fallons, etc....... 3. Carol, Here in Clinton County, most just refer to the Queens Mansion, as belonging to Queen Isabella. Yes there was indeed another Queen Isabella, she was a daughter of King Ferdinand VII (bn 1784) and Maria Christina(Maria Christina was the dau of Francis I the King of two Sicillies) She bacame the 4th wife of King Ferdinand VII in 1829. One daughter born of this marriage, Isabella II. In 1854 construction began on what is known as the Fallon Hotel, it was completed the next year. This Hotel, as well as the Queens Mansion(near Farrandsville) and 50,000 acres of land were purchased and constructed with monies from Maria Christina. Maria Christina convinced her husband King Ferdinand VII to disolve a ruling that upon his death his brother Don Carlos would gain the throne, which would give Isabella II the crown and title of Queen. The king did do this. In 1854 a revolution forced Maria Christina to flee from Spain, she returned in 1864. Another revolution followed Maria Christina and Queen Isabella II fled to France. It is the history of this area that the Mansion was built for Queen Isabella II to come here in exile. Which she never did. However, it is claimed that The Duke of Rainsaires did come to this area, stayed in the Fallon Hotel, and at some point he became the husband of Maria Christina. Mt. Rainsaires (in Clinton Co) is named after him. Queen Isabella II was a minor when she took the crown. Her mother was appointed guardian/regent by the will of King Ferdinand VII. King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella, were the backers of Columbus. Some 350 years before Isabella II. I hope this clears up the time period. 3. Hi, I got interested too. Not to throw cold water on this search but the Wollaston Group have been searching the entire east coast for the past 6 months. Out of curiosity, I searched the net and came up with the following posting: The History of Wollaston (Group) HOW Message Board Guestbook Email Researching the History of Wollaston The History of Wollaston (Group) - HOW - was formed in September 1998 by local people with a shared interest in the history and development of their village. HOW meets twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesday evenings, at 7.30pm in Stepalong Shoes at 151 Bridgnorth Road in Wollaston. All are welcome - why not come along and find out what we are getting up to, and where we are going in our research. HOW is currently working on the completion of material for its exhibition on the History of Wollaston, which will be held in Wollaston Church Hall every weekend in September 2000. The Hall will be open between 11.00-13.00 and 14.00-16.00. Members of HOW will be on hand to answer any questions and to note any comments or suggestions visitors may make. HOW is also working on the preparation of the first detailed history of Wollaston, which will be published around the end of the year 2000. The book will sell for £9.99, and there will be just 2,000 copies available, so if you are interested in reserving one early, contact us now! All of HOW's work to date has been greatly aided by the receipt of grants from both Dudley MBC and from the Millennium Awards for All scheme. Where's the Hall? A lot of HOW's efforts are being directed towards finding Wollaston Hall, the village's former Manor House, which was dismantled and sent to America in 1926. To date HOW have been able to establish the basic truth of this event, and may be on the track of some of the paneling and other items from inside the Hall - but where's the Hall itself? Can you help us with this? Wollaston Tennis Club? Any information and/or photographs concerning the Wollaston Tennis Club during the period 1930-50 would be greatly appreciated. Keep watching these pages as the history of Wollaston unfolds. Dr Paul Collins Chairman (HOW) This page has been visited times. 3. Yes, Me too. I was watching the History channel the other night, about the London Bridge being moved to Arizona, by an American investor. Someone somewhere must have information on "Wollaston Hall" . Queen Isabella had the Mansion built above Farrandsville for when she came to America in exile(which she never did) then had it dismantled and shipped back to Spain. But it is my understanding that a couple of homes in Lock Haven have mantle's from it, that did not make it back to Spain. Bartley was born in 1883. I have no idea what became of him. Since Charles may have left the area, I'm really hoping for Jennie's date of death. If Charles is there with her that would be a bonus. 3. William Dunn. "Dunnstown" not Dunnston. I have also seen it referenced as Dunnsburg. It is located in Woodward Township, Clinton County. ----- Original Message ----- From: "The McLendon's" <nonny984@home.ffni.com> To: <PACLINTO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 19, 2001 8:04 AM Subject: Re: PACLINTO-D Digest V01 #11 > Who was Dunnston named for? 3. Church records show Jennie BARTLEY, wife of Charles Franklin BARTLEY, buried at Dunnstown Cemetery. Hoping someone may be able to tell me the date of death for Jennie BARTLEY. Also, whether or not Charles F. BARTLEY is buried at Dunnstown. Thanks for any help, Colette

    3. I don't think that Dick was being nit-picking, nor did it seem he wanted to be removed from the list. He's been very helpful to me in the past - gone out of his way to send me documents. Normally I don't send notices to the list, only read and stay in the background. However, I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea about Dick. Most of us never think about those that don't have internet capability - therefore no chat ability. A lot of people have only e-mail available to them. Some - like me - have the internet, but due to their IP, chat is not available to them. Dave and Dick - you're both ok in my book. Let's get back to the really important things - genealogy. Anybody have anything new on the Moore or Shade families? Been out of touch for quite a while. I'm still hoping that someone will help identify the woman whom Dave posted on the photographs page for me. Thanks list. 2.       My ancestors also came to America, settled in PA, and later some went to IL. It is rumored that a grandmother of mine was the grand daughter of William Penn, but no one has been able to verify that.  That would be a real coup if I could do that, since I have lived in PA all my life.       Since many of your ancestors ran the same route, the question that I would like to ask you is does anyone have records of your ancestors buying land in PA from Edward Jarvis ELDRED?  He worked for Joseph Priestly, whose home was in North Umberland, near Sunbury, PA. Edward Jarvis ELDRED came to America in 1798 and, although the ELDRED family settled in PA, some migrated all over the US Best wishes, Eldred W. Atkinson ewa728@aol.com
