    1. Re: death certificates
    2. Beverly, If I hadn't gotten back to you about the Confer info, I'll state that as soon as you can get that to me, I'd appreciate it. Our deadline for the book is supposed to be December 1, and then publish by February. That may change, but at present, that is our timeline. Now, on to the Death Certificates. I know that they are in the Clinton County Courthouse, Officer of Register and Recorder, from 1893 to 1905. The Ross Library in Lock Haven also has the books on microfilm (which I believe they somehow got through the LDS). Thus, you could try the courthouse again, the Ross Library, or obtain the microfilms through your local LDS church. Hope this is of help. Justin

    1. Cemetery Index
    2. Barbara, Sad to hear that someone has questioned you about your records infringing on other records. Believe me, I know the feeling! It's my understanding that if you personally went out and gathered the data, no one can cause you a problem concerning publishing your material. Cemeteries are not covered by copyright laws, and gravestones are very definitely in the public domain. The decision on what you do with your work is yours alone. It is a huge compliment to have your data considered worthy of publication. Congratulations! Diana Mason

The Clinton list is the place to be isn't it! Lots of interest in the county, resources and genealogists taking time for someone else! You are all the best :) Barb

    1. 1870 Census index CD.
    2. Ken & Dianne
    3. Hi everyone, For those of you who have purchased "Family Quest Archives", Pennsylvania 1870 Census Index: I would like to pull your coattail to an error that I have found on mine, and it may be in yours also. When doing an exact match: County: Clinton, Locality: Lamar, Page: 483......mine only shows 2 records: Wallizer, Jerry 24 M W PA, and Worrick, Elizabeth 65 F W PA. But there should be at least 17 records on that page. We are using this CD, just to first check names that we enter before sending them to the proof readers and corrections persons. We have found several other errors on this CD, but they have been somewhat minor, so far. Dianne & Ken Croak

    3. In The Commemorative Biographical Record of Central PA there is mention of a Slabtown located near Milton, Centre Co, 1801. Since I have the CD , it only has biographies on it. I don't know if this book contains other info or not. There was also a Slabtown in Elk/Clearfield Co (near the border). It is gone now but a copy of an old map I have shows it near the intersection of 255 & 555. It was called Slabtown because the houses were built on "slabs". Probably built to accommodate all that were moving there to do lumbering. 1. Cameron County Genealogy Project updates
    2. Mike
    3. November 11, 1999- I hope you get some use out of two new features. First is a search engine that will search this site for surnames, towns, cemeteries or what ever you want to search for. IT IS AWESOME!!! CHECK IT OUT! The second feature is the tool called Mind It. It will notify you by e-mail when ever the News page changes so you can keep up with the latest additions. The MapQuest link that I added yesterday kicks in on York county...not sure why, the URL is correct. If you click on "return to the previous page", it will take you to the Cameron County page and you can then click on 'Search for town maps' and you get the Cameron County towns....I am working on correcting this. The Guestbook has been repaired...now we can look forward to hearing from you! November 10, 1999- I have added some new links to RootsWeb Biographies and Wills for Cameron County at the suggestion of Dee Shaffer Zito. Once again, posting on these RootsWeb sites will give more people access to your family information and will help locate fellow searchers. I have also added a link to MapQuest -maps for most of the towns in Cameron County. What is neat about these maps is that they show many of the Runs (small valleys where people lived and worked by the water) in the County. There are also street maps for most towns. I have added new links under Related Sites that include a link about the Elk Herd...if you travel to Cameron County ask where you can go to see these majestic creatures! They are awesome and usually you can find them along the road! I also linked to Heritage Books, only because they still publish the Histories of the Counties, McKean, Elk, Cameron and Potter, Pennsylvania by J.H. Beers & Co., 1890...it is pricy, but available. I think you might be able to find an orginal copy for less than that! (The Cameron County Library has a copy) I also added a link to some free, printable genealogy forms to help keep you organized! Now which pile of papers did I put those forms???? What links would you like to share? Donna Gigliotti has added many names to the Huntley Cemetery list (it may now be complete?) and partial listings for Moorehill Cemetery. Thanks Donna! More to come! Come Visit the Cameron County Genealogy Project! http://www.pa-roots.com/cameron

My copy is a first edition and was published in 1883, so I don't handle it very often. Dr. Egle must be dead by now, so I'm not too worried about quoting from his book.
