[NOTE: This should have gone to the list as well as to Peggy. ~~ J.E. Bean] Peggy: You pose an interesting question and one I hadn't thought of before. If you look on page 151 of STRAW's book, under William BLOOM Jr., you'll see where he states, "Jane, born November 30, 1820, married Joseph HUNTER..." Then on page 269, he states, "Joseph, son of Samuel and Martha (PRICE) CALDWELL married Jane, daughter of William BLOOM Jr, born November 30, 1820..." So the question is: Was Jane BLOOM married twice -- 1st to Joseph HUNTER and 2nd to Joseph CALDWELL? According to my calculations, she married Joseph HUNTER c 1838 (1st child born 1839). As I don't have any children listed for CALDWELL, I can't guesstimate when this marriage occurred. However, STRAW says on page 269 that the children born to Jane and Joseph CALDWELL were P.A. [a son] and Martha Jane, "who became the wife of James R. NORRIS... raised a large family, one of whom is Orla NORRIS..." With your information, Peggy, it looks like "P.A." is Peter and the marriage of Jane BLOOM and Joseph CALDWELL was probably around 1847 -- making this a possible 2nd marriage for the puzzling Jane. Anyone have any ideas about the marriage(s) of Jane BLOOM? Best regards, Jacquelyn
Jacqueline I remember a few years back some corrections came out for the Straw book because I rem sending the person corrections to my father's record. It was that he, Robert Harris Lawhead was born Sept 7, 1901 and his brother Thomas Fleming Lawhead was born Feb 1, 1900 and not the way it was in the book. It seems the man who was doing the corrections to the book lived out west, like Arizona maybe. I made the corrections to the book and crossed out Hunter and wrote Caldwell but did not record mans name who was making corrections. Direct ancestors of mine are Alexander Caldwell and Margaret Hartshorn. Do you have & how accurate do you put in what the Clearfield Historical Society has which quotes "THE CALDWELLS (Copied from a history of Clearfield County, published in the Public Spirit, Friday, May 14, 1897)? The whole tree of Caldwell & extended families I copied from CCHS is about 88 pages long. The newspaper article says - 'Joseph Caldwell married Jane Bloom. His son, P.A. lives in the West, and his daughter, Martha J., is married to James R. Norris. (I later found out the P.A. was Peter Alexander Caldwell who died in Nebraska) The Straw book was copywrite 1931, so the newspaper article would have been sooner. I have an Albert Y Straw and wife Margaret buried in the Centre Methodist Cemetery just south of Hyde, PA in Clearfield County. There is no marker but they are on the map which the trustees keep.
