The government of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania had nothing to do with marriages until 1885. The best you can do is find where someone wrote down that a marriage occured. Robert Allison's book "Marriage Records of Clearfield County, Pa, prior to October 1, 1885" is a great resource, he did all the work of finding the records in the newspapers, DAR records, family genealogies, etc. You can get the book from the Clearfield County Historical Society as Jim Curry mentioned in his email. There is also a CD now available, "Centre County, PA Marriage Index, 1764-2005". Previously there were a couple of books published by the Friends of Centre County Library and Historical Museum, covering 1800-1885. The new CD has added all the extra years.
