A "roll call" is where you post the surnames (usually direct lines) of ancestors you are researching in a particular geographical area, time frame, etc. It CAN be very beneficial in finding bits and pieces of information as well as living relatives, but usually the administrator of a list will make the call for a "roll call" if he or she determines one is needed or there are multiple requests for one.
