    1. [PACLEARF] LaBelle/LaCour and Beckwith : Marion Mine / LaBalle, Johncour, Joncour, Lann
    2. slbearer
    3. Francis Henri (Fronce also called France)'s descendants now go by the surname LaBalle. Fronce was only 33 when he died in 1917. His wife Gerdy Dora Beckwith LaBalle was a proprietor of a restaurant on Main Street, Vintondale Borough on the 1920 census records. Fronce's parents brought his brother Ernest, sister Mary Ann & him from France in 1878. It is believed Fronce's father died within the first year after arriving in the United States. The family was then found in the 1880 census records in the Village of Sterling, Houtzdale, PA Clearfield County as step children under the house hold of Peter Lacourt [Lacour] & mother Josephine. Ernest 12 years, working in the mines. Mary Ann was 10. Francis was listed under Henry in this census record at age 6; & Mary Jane was rounded off to 6 months, however was at least 8 or closer to 9 months. This record shows the children under the name of LaBolle. Ernest married Mary Ann Johncour. Mary Ann married Peter Johncour. Fronce of course is listed above & Mary Jane married Alexander Lann. The 3 Mary's above were so confusing to the people that wrote about them. Very rarely was the correct Mary put in the correct position that the people were writing about. LaBelle, in one article alone was spelled 3 different ways. There are several records listing Fronce as Lacour. The 1910 census records listed him under the household of Peter Lacour. He was 26 then so I am sure no one probably specified step son then. I am sure there were probably others that only knew the person that raised Fronce as Peter Lacour & naturally thought he was his biological parent. Then, since he had employment records under the name of Lacour, I guess it didn't matter what name you used back then & Fronce was listed on the majority of the written records. Hope that was explained ok & I didn't confuse you more. Susan NCN, Dec 12, 1902 MARRIAGE LICENSES Virginia Sheets of MARION MINE, SUSQUEHANNA TOWNSHIP and Fedelis Gray of Spangler.
