Hi Peggy, Thank you so much. More pieces to put together! Belinda Murray was John Alexander Murray's mother. His father, William, died when he was young and as the only surviving son he took care of his mother until her death -with the exception of the time he spent fighting in the Civil war (he was present at Appomatix when Lee surrendered.) When he returned home Sarah Jane and children had gone to Nebraska with her father and his new wife - when I read they went there it did not make sense that George Kyler who I thought was her father, being as old as he was, would start such a new adventure. John Murray went to get his family and all returned to Clearfield County where I was born and raised. Belinda was a daughter of Neimiaha Mains. LDS is all over the Mains family from Clearfield. They decend from the Plymoth Colony - -not the Mayflower but from the second ship arriving the following April. I don't know any of them. Christina was a Schimmel by birth and married George Kyler. LDS has them listed as Sarah Jane's parents rather than her grandparents. I am grateful for Larry Blooms information that cleared that up for me. I would love to know who George Murray and Amelia Shimel are. Probably relatives from both sides. When I come home again, soon I hope, I will have to explore more about the Schimmel and Kyler relationships. Do you know anything about the Clearfield Historical Society. Should I start there? Thank you, Sue Carns
The Clearfield Historical Society is very good but it doesn't open until the first Sunday in May and then they are only open on Thursdays and Sundays from 1:30 to 4:30pm. Check out their website at http://www.clfdhistory.org/ They have moved to a new location (both website and address). I think there may be someone availabe by email but I won't swear to that. By the way, I have kept digging and the 1870 census indicates that Belinda's name is Malinda; so try both names in your research. I may have no reason to have this family but my census info is up to snuff. I get a little compulsive about stuff like this but at least it keeps me off the streets. Your info was interesting and I would love it if you kept me informed of your progress so that I can figure out why I have this family in my database in the first place. Sue: I have an Amelia Shimmel, b. about 1856 in my notes. Her parents are John Shimmel ( son of Lewis Shimmel and Margaret Foulk) and Mary Jane Murray, born about 1831. She had siblings; Margaret, 1849 and Alexander, 1851. Information is from census. John Shimmel was also married to Ellen Larrimore?
