Frank A Johns Retired coal miner, member of UMWA, member of Germany Methodist Church Frank A. Johns, 90, of Rt. 259, New Florence, died Sunday, March 14, 1999 at home. Mr. Johns was born April 4, 1908 in Robinson, West Wheatfield Township. He was a member of Germany United Methodist Church, West Wheatfield Twp., and was on the board of directors at Germany Lutheran Cemetery, opening graves there and at Bethel Cemetery. Son of the late Andrew and Nancy Lewis Johns, he was a retired coal miner and member of United Mine Workers of America Local 1257. Surviving are his wife Laura Alters Johns; three children, Mrs. Roy (Alverda) Stiffler, New Florence, George, Johnstown and Clarence, New Florence; step children Mrs. John (Esther) Baldwin, Allentown, and George Boyer, Greenwich, Ohio; Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, a great great grandson, a special friend, Carl McClaren, New Florence and his sister Myrtle Torri, Colorado. Preceding him in death were two wives, Blanche Rodkey Johns and Nora Nickelson Johns; his son Fred; his brothers Elmer, Clarence, Clyde and George; his sisters Edith and Hulda. Services were held Thursday at Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, Pastors George Rudh and Joel Hunt officiating. Born Feb. 22, 1906, in Clymer, daughter of George and Margaret (Patterson) Rodkey. Survived by husband, Frank A. and these children; Mrs. Alverta Stiffler, New Florence RD 2; George, Johnstown RD 3; Clarence, New Florence RD 2, and Fred, at home; also 10 grandchildren. Sister of Mrs. Hulda Leman, Robinson; Murray, Indiana RD 4; Mrs. Zoe Rushton, Marion Center RD 2, and Clarence, New Florence RD 2. Friends received after noon Wednesday at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, where service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, the Rev. Robert O. Hooper. Interment, Germany Lutheran Cemetery. Johns 56, of New Florence RD 2 died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. He was born Jan. 25, 1942 in West Wheatfield Twp., a son of Frank A. Johns of New Florence RD 2 and the late Blanche Irene (Rodkey) Johns. He was a former employee of Beckwith Machinery, Indiana. In addition to his father, he is survived by a daughter, Blanche M. (Mrs. Norm E.) Miller of Robinson; two sons, Raymond M. Johns and Matthew J. Johns, both of New Florence RD 2; three grandchildren, Jason, Michael and Alicia Miller; a sister, Alberta I. (Mrs. Roy) Stiffler of New Florence RD 2; two brothers, George Johns and his wife, Loretta of Johnstown and Clarence R. Johns and his wife, Dolores of New Florence RD 2; numerous nieces and nephews; and former wife, Elaine Dunlop of Latrobe. Funeral services were held Saturday, at the Richard C. Stuart Funeral Home, Armagh, with Pastor Joel I. Hunt officiating. Burial was in Germany Lutheran Cemetery.
