This is the same cemetery that had about 75 stones damaged last year. They had just finished restoring the damaged stones when this was done. They caught the vandals from last year but I do not know what was done with them. Leah
My great-grandfather, a civil war vet, is buried in Phillipsburg. I would come down for a trial in a heart beat if his grave was ever desecrated like this and the culprits caught. I hope the sick b*st*rds who did this are caught and punished to the fullest extent of the law, including having to pay to repair and/or replace each and every stone damaged. May God have mercy on their souls, because I sure don't. Protect our vets, dead or alive. My 2g grandparents immigrated from Scotland (Edinburgh) to Houtzdale in the early 1870s. My gg grandmother died before the 1880 census and my gg grandfather shortly after the 1880 census, probably within a year. I wondered if anyone might know the names of the cemeteries in the area that I might check out to see if I could find their graves. Thanks in advance! Bob Barndt Midland, TX

The book has a Jane Long marriage to Jeremiah Clinton on July 9, 1879. As stated before this book was compiled by volunteers and they did not include more than the names and date of the marriage. I would think that to be in the book one would have the marriage recorded at the court house. My great grandmother's marriage certificate which I got from the court house by walking in a couple of years ago has her parent's names and her spouse's parents' names and occupations of the two getting married.
Please give me time to look things up. Also please remember that Clearfield, Pike Twp, Grampian and Curwensville are all different political places. They do not normally include information about another in their booklets to honor their own history. For tonight I did not find Dr. F. S. Nevling, MD the Clearfield Boro book. I did find that the Clearfield County Medical Society organized in 1864. The current Society may well have information on him. I did find that F. S. Nevling married Nancy C. Troxell on January 7, 1869. The marriage book gives only the date of the marriage and the two people involved. It was one of the first major projects of the county historical society. Mr. Allison whom I had for homeroom my freshman year of high school did a lot of the work or so I understand. Jean

Renee, If you are already opening each page to type the book and are able to scan the photos, please scan the entire book. This is absolutely the best way to preserve it as well as make it accessible to others. Text-only pages, in particular, don't take up much space and only need to be scanned at 150 dpi. Thank you for your efforts. God bless, Rick Stuby -----Original Message----- From: Reneelwaring@aol.com [mailto:Reneelwaring@aol.com] Sent: Saturday, October 08, 2005 11:41 PM To: PACLEARF-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Clearfield County Centennial Booklet Hi Everyone. Several people have made lookup requests for this booklet. It is approx. 70 pages and there is no index plus as you can imagine this thing is 101 years old and I don't want to keep leafing through it looking for names. There are lots of photographs and drawings though and I am retyping the booklet, keeping the front page scanned as it is, plus I am scanning all the photo's. I will send it onto Justin Houser to add to the web site so everyone can have a look. I'm going to make sure that this booklet is preserved for future generations. When I am finished, I will probably donate it to Clearfield County Historical Society. I recommend that anyone with something like this put it where it will be better preserved. I gave a soldiers bible that belonged to a cousin from the Civil War to the Philipsburg HS. I found it at the family farm but being that his last name was Shaw (his Mother was a Waring) I felt that history would be better served if the Bible were preserved in an institution instead of in my closet. Easier to share it with others too. It has a very sweet letter from his commanding officer telling Aunt Martha of her sons death written on the inside page. God Bless, Renee Waring ______________________________
