    1. Help- can anyone solve this mystery please.......... MINING TRAGEDY!
    2. jnsford
    3. Hello List members Good Morning all If you like a great mystery and what genealogist doesn't ( smile ) then I have a mystery for you and I sure can use help with this one I am interested in a mining accident that took place in or about the Ramey, Clearfield Co PA area, about 1912-1925 that took the life of a young man by the last name of PYER. William / Wilhelm Pyer also known as GUMMIE. He was about 17-18 years of age. The family story handed on down said there may have been a fire in the mine. No one recalls for sure that this was why young Mr. PYER passed away, only that he did die in a mining accident. Will appreciate any and all help in solving this mystery. Have a great day everyone Sue

    2. I am looking for information regarding the Howard Studio in Clearfield. I have a photo without a name from that studio, and I'm wondering if it is still in business (bought by someone else or still in the Howard family and the negatives have been archived.) I believe that the subject in the photo belongs to the Shockey family of the Curwensville area. Alice

    2. In Shaw's genealogy of Clearfield County he has the family of Samuel Snyder and Rachel Bloom marrying 02,26,1857 and living in Knox Township. The names of their children and dates do not seem to be exact matches of your posting. It is too late for me to give more detail, but I can send more tomorrow. Jean

    3. I am looking for a Clara Snyder. She is supposed to be the daughter of John & Jennie Snyder. Clara was born 02/04/1881. Funny thing she went into the marriage to Edward John Ebbs on 06/20/1899 as Clara L. Luther. Daughter of Francis & Margeritt Luther, but her obituary had Clara (Snyder) Ebbs daughter of John & Jennie Snyder. Adoption possibly. I guess we will never know. With the dates it is probably not your John though. Just thought I'd throw the names out there again. You never know who may be reading & have some information. 3. I have made several attempts to access primary resources of information about my 6th great-grandather, John Robert Baker with little success. This is the information that I have: "Robert Baker was a Major in Colonel Thomas Cothson's Associated Regiment of The West End, Lancaster County on The Susquehanna, 1747-1748. He was an early pioneer in Path Valley, PA, by 1750. He had a plantation of 300 acres that his will divided into 9ths." *Robert Baker pedigree furnished to Thomas Clifford Askey (2-9-1981) by Judy Kay Cullom Bone, descendant of John Askey and Elizabeth "Betsy" Evans. This information is widely cited by most of my family researchers. I have attempted to learn anything about this regiment without success. Does anyone have information or suggestions about where I can learn more? I would like to learn more about the Baker family and, with luck, link some of the branches that I have been more successful with. Michele

    2. I have found that the staff at the Progress to be very helpful with obits. Several times a year I visit their office and they have assisted me in searching for obits. They have old issues of the paper on microfilm. The only drawback is that they have a microfilm reader only, it does not print, so all the obits I find I have to copy the information by hand.
