I have two seperate lines in Clearfield they are Kimmell's and Kephart's anyone else here researching these families? Lisa Masters
Looking for connections, especially descendents, of these people: Sutton Burlin WILLIAMS (b. 15 Oct 1876); around 1914-1918 married Vera Violet OSHELL (b. 12 July 1892). Vera had a son - Marvin C. SACKETT (later known as Marvin C. WILLIAMS) born 10 June 1907 in Coalport - from her first (brief) marriage to ___ SACKETT. In the 1910 US Census, Vera is back living with her parents (see below), with 3-year-old Marvin SACKETT listed as Oshell's grandson. Vera V. OSHELL and Sutton B. WILLIAMS had a daughter, Violet, born 25 Jun 1917. Marvin C. WILLIAMS married Gertrude HORNUNG in 1931, and they had four sons: Marvin Jr., Robert, Herbert and Walter Wade. By 1930, they had moved to Buffalo NY. Much later in life (prob. early 1960s), Vera married Gertrude's widowed father, Fred G. HORNUNG. Vera died 28 Jun 1980. Marvin Sr. died 30 July 1949 at age 42 while living in Middleport NY, but his oldest son, Marvin Jr., my first cousin, is still living. I am attempting to locate family members from either of these grandparents' side for him in time for our family reunion in August. I was able to easily trace both of these large families back to the 1830 Census, always living in Clearfield County (Coalport, Beccaria, Irvona) or Cambria County (White Twp), so it is quite likely there are descendents living in those areas today. I am also exploring the SACKETT connection, although I don't believe Marvin Jr. is aware that Sutton WILLIAMS was not his birth father. ====== ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND - WILLIAMS ============= Sutton B. WILLIAMS was the son of Thomas T. WILLIAMS (b. abt 1805) and Mary ___ (b. Mar 1846). Sutton had five siblings: Alfred, John L., Annie M., Charles and Benjamin. It is believed that Sutton was married prior to his marriage (around 1914-18) with Vera, as he states in the 1930 Census that he was first married in 1906. Parents of Thomas T. WILLIAMS were John T. WILLIAMS (b. abt 1805) and Ann ___ (b. abt 1814). In addition to Thomas, they had seven other children: Harriet, Benjamin, Daniel, Mary J., John, John L. and Sarah. ====== ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND - OSHELL ============= Parents of Vera Violet OSHELL were Levi T. and Ellen/Barbria ___. Married abt 1877, they had nine children besides Vera: Rachel E., Sara E., Ella, Wayne, Levi W., Mayme/Maimie, Ira S., Spirgen (?) and Zella. Parents of Levi T. OSHELL were Jesse (b. abt 1818) and Elizabeth ___ (b. abt 1817). In addition to Levi T., they had ten children: Mary, Lydia, Rachael, Ross, George W., Jesse W., James A., John, Daniel M. and Jesse M. =================================================== I am posting this to both the Beccaria and Clearfield Co. lists, and look forward to sharing information with anyone with a connection to these families, especially current descendents. Thanks! ~Carol in Detroit
Good morning, everyone, This message is being posted with the prior approval of your listowner, Nate Zipfel. The CD is compiled and is in the process of being published. The Centre County Genealogical Society is now taking orders for the CD-ROM, which will be shipped when it comes back from the publisher. After a long period of gathering data, the Centre County Genealogical Society is proud to announce the release of a CD-ROM indexing all identified marriages in the county's history. The CD, entitled "Centre County, PA Marriage Index, 1764-2005," contains index references to over 71,000 marriages. The names of bride and groom, the date of marriage, a book and page reference are given for each entry. Marriages since Oct. 1, 1885, have been indexed from the marriage license dockets on file at the library, and indexing is current through June 2005. Prior to October, 1885, marriages were gleaned from a variety of sources, including the three volumes compiled by the Centre County Library, recently discovered church records and family Bibles, the Spangler notebooks, newspaper accounts, and other references. Pre-1885 marriages include any marriage located which occurred in Centre County or referenced known Centre County people. Thus, the earliest listed marriage is from the Thomas Askey family record, dated 1764, five years before the settlement of Centre County. There were approximately 10,000 marriages found for the 1764-1885 time frame. The index appears in PDF format, in alphabetical order, with an accompanying Microsoft Access file so that the researcher can sort the data in any fashion he or she desires. An introduction, over 20 pages in length, reviews marriage license law, procedure, and history for the area, gives a list of the clerks who recorded the licenses, and many other interesting details. The work was edited by Justin K. Houser with the assistance of over 30 volunteers, who are given credit in the introduction. Copies of the CD are available from the Society through its website http://www.rootsweb.com/~paccgs/books.htm Although I edited this work, I have no interest in its publication other than to see the Society prosper and information disseminated to researchers. As I announced earlier Donna Ireland graciously granted permission to the Clearfield USGenWeb Project to transcribe "The Clearfield Cookbook". A great group of volunteers have finished the transcription; it is now on-line at: http://www.pa-roots.com/~clearfield/cookbook/clearfield_cook_book.htm The cook book was compiled and published by the Junior Auxiliary of the Clearfield Hospital. All of the recipes were donated by people in the community. In addition, Donna created an index to the names of the contributers so you can check for recipes submitted by your ancestors. Cathy, I had some luck. It was something to do on a very rainy Sunday afternoon in Iowa; the search function didn't find her as Myrtle Hall in 1967 for some unknown reason, but after I found Robert's obit and her maiden name, a search for Hall and Cunningham did find her 1967 obituary. I also went ahead and found her with her family in 1880. Like I said, it's a dreary day here and this brightened it up considerably! The Progress, Clearfield PA, Wednesday March 1, 1967, page 2 MRS. She was born in Bell Township Oct.15, 1862 [should be 1872, she'd be 104!], the daughter of John and Caroline (McLaughlin) Cunningham. Surviving her are three sons and four daughters: William R. In 1878 he came to the United States with an uncle, Robert Mitchell, with whom he made his home and attended the schools at Williamsport, Pa. As a young man he moved to Mahaffey and for several years was employed at the tannery. In 1901 he transferred to the New York Central Railroad as an engine hostler, which occupation he continued in until his retirement in 1937. Mr. Hall was very active in civic affairs, and served for many years both on the borough council and on the school board. In May 1893 he was united in marriage to the former Myrtle Cunningham who survives him together with these four daughters and three sons: Mrs. Carrie Notley of Punxsutawney; Mrs. Joy Culp of Altoona; Mrs. Isabelle McKee of Mahaffey; Mrs. Grace Ecelberger of Reynoldsville; William R. of Mahaffey; David of Glen Campbell and Harry of Burnside. Surviving also are 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held from his late home at Mahaffey Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 7, at 2 o'clock with Rev. Theodore S.
