Is there anyone on the list doing research on the BROWNE family of Osceola Mills.. I am looking for a connection to the BATEMAN Family. My grandfather Jacob L. BATEMAN Sr. d.b. 31 Jan 1894 in Osceola Mills had a cousin named Charles BROWNE also of the same township. Charlie as he was called had a daughter named Gloria, who married a man from Altoona PA. I would like to know anything about this family. Thank you. Who were Charles or even Gloria's siblings or aunts and uncles. Thank you Jacob L. BATEMAN III Montgomery, Alabama
Hello All, I just posted a map of the 1784 PA land purchase which highlights the counties involved. Just some background information for everyone regarding Heritage Quest. Remember the Allen County Library in Indiana that I have raved about for years? They designed PERSI. What is PERSI? It is a very large portion of the information at the Allen County Library. They tried to run a web site with the information they had collected in the file PERSI but it got a bit out of hand. I guess they never realized how HUGE this thing would be so........they sold the PERSI rights to Heritage Quest as well as some of their other databases. This way they don't have to deal with it and can concentrate on continueing to build their huge genealogical database. If you haven't heard of Allen County Library, you are really missing it. To me, it is the second only to Utah. On a web site called "The Friends of Allen County Library" they are trying to download the surname list from their Library files. Every book in the library can be name searched by computer, plus much, much more. So, if you have the chance and are in the area stop on by. You won't regret it. By the way, I'm living in PA now so can't visit for others. I'm just bidding my time until I get to go out there again. If you would like to get a monthly newsletter from Allen County Library I can send you the email address. Sincerely, Renee L. Waring
FYI....... New York State Genealogists are banding together via an on-line Petition to the New York State Public Library requesting the STATE Library to seek - STATE FUNDING to be utilized to provide holders of valid New York State Public Library Cards with REMOTE on-line internet access to HeritageQuest Online, a collection of online databases including original U.S. census records, Revolutionary War pension applications, more than 20,000 local and family history books, Freedman's Bank records, AND ProQuest Historical Newspapers, including the New York Times Historical Newspapers 1851-2003. Please visit the Link Below to read and sign this Petition, if you agree with what it is trying to accomplish. http://www.petitiononline.com/fundhqpq/petition.html The petition is designed for NY Residents only. HOWEVER, If you are an out of state resident and would be willing to pay a fee for remote access - sign with your City and State of residence and add a comment stating this. Other states offer it, why not New York???? Thanks, Linda

Hello All, I just posted 2 PA maps to my web site at http://www.midatlanticarchives.com One shows the land purchases that make up the state and the other is genealogy of the counties of PA. Thank You, Justin. I will schedule a trip to the CCHS in the near future. Yes, I understand that indexing will not likely help me out here. Too much of a minor event. I will focus my search on the weeks following the arrival of those names on the Philadelphia passenger lists. Looks like a lot of microfilm work. Paul, There was no Clearfield Progress at this time. You will have to consult the older newspapers such as the Clearfield Republican, Raftsman's Journal, Clearfield Public Spirit, etc., all of which are on file at the Clearfield County Historical Society, on microfilm. There is no index to something like the arrival of a visitor so you'd have to go issue-by-issue to see if it was reported. Morrisdale is closer to Philipsburg so perhaps the Philipsburg Journal, also on file at CCHS as well as the Philipsburg Historical Foundation and the Centre County Library in Bellefonte, might have picked it up. It does not have an index to things like you are seeking. Most newspaper indices compiled by historical organizations focus on obituaries, early marriages, and perhaps some wedding anniversaries, notable fires, etc. Justin At 05:00 AM 7/17/06, you wrote: >Would someone provide the web link to search the Archives of >the Clearfield Progress ? Would someone provide the web link to search the Archives of the Clearfield Progress ? Years 1896 --- 1900 ? Or, was the Progress known by another name at that time ? I am looking to research the arrival of a visitor from England, a Mr. Chas Hill to visit the Freeman / Wilson household in Morrisdale Mines or Clearfield. Mr. Hill may also have gone by the name of Thomas Hill, or Isaac Hill. Regards, Paul Francis Erie, PA
Thank you so much. I should have looked for the Historical Societies web page. The last time I asked (and that was probably several years ago) they didn't have any Houtzdale papers and I haven't rechecked since then. Shame on me!! I will be sure to visit them while I'm there.
