    1. Re: [PACLEARF] McCartney
    2. Hi Beth, Interesting about McCartney, Pa. I was born and raised in Clearfield Cty. (have been gone for many years but come back frequently.) My mothers family were McCartans, very proud of their Irish ancestry. Because of this, I think I would have heard of Mccartney, Pa. Have some old maps and will check it out. Do you know what township it is in? Sue Carns.

    1. Re: [PACLEARF] Ancestry Lookup for 1870 Census/Thank you
    2. To Monica, Jocelynn, Sandra & anyone I may have missed, a big thank you in helping my search for Patrick McCartney. It is only recently that I saw this sheet that I had put aside months ago and saw him for the first time. I have hope that finding this info you have provided will lead me to the Catholic church where he married my great grandmother, Mary Duffy, in NYC in 1870-1871. I apologize for not putting NYC in the lookup, I was just so excited that I sent it leaving that out. You managed to help me get a little closer to breaking my brick wall. 3. Record <javascript:go7163_23536293()> *Patrick McCartney* New York Ward 18 District 18 (2nd Enum), New York, NY abt 1849 Ireland Male http://content.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=7163&iid=NYM593_104 1-0150&fn=Patrick&ln=McCartney&st=d&ssrc=&pid=31241636 This is the census image that Kathy has, I think. The link was provided by Peggy DeHoog. I went back and forward a couple of pages and apparently the enumerator did indeed write the avenue and street numbers in that second column. Your Patrick McCartney is living on 20th street, at number 203, near 3rd Avenue in New York city. Her initial posting failed to clue us in that she was not looking at a Clearfield County census. What is unusual, at least I've never seen it before, is that these pages are listed as a second enumeration. The 1870 form asks for the people in the household as of June 1, 1870, and their ages at that time. These pages were completed in January 1871, but one should assume that the information is accurate as of June 1870. Of course, with people moving, etc, it's hard to imagine that the enumerator would just skip someone he found in January 1871 who wasn't living there six months before. And the enumerator would find it nearly impossible to know who had been living in this ward in June 1870 and now was not. Interesting situation that probably resulted in people being missed and others counted twice. 2. Joycelynn, Thank you for all of your look-up on Tozers. I know this takes time and I appreciate your help. I did know that A.W. (Aiden) Tozer and some of his family went to Akron but I never searched for the Sarah Tozer and Daniel Curry. I, too, had seen their marriage on the list from Marriage Records in Clearfield County. It does make sense that this Sarah could have been the dau. of Gilbert S. Tozer since it was his desc. that moved to Akron. I will use this information and try to tie up some loose strings. Every bit helps. My direct line is from Baruch and Rebecca Campbell Tozer. They are my gg grandparents. 3. 3. Sue, I didn't know who Sarah Tozer's parents were, just the marriage information from the Marriages of Clearfield County prior to Oct 1885 book which says: Tozer, Sarah & Daniel Curry September 1874 So I went looking at the census information and I can tell you that what I found doesn't match the birthdates for the children of Baruch listed on one posted family tree. Here's what I found. Unfortunately there are two Sarah E. Tozer's born about the same time and only one marriage record. 1860 PA, Clearfield Co., Chest twp, New Washington PO, page 874A Barech Tozer 52 farmer b.
