I am hoping to take pictures of ancestors/relative grave sites and do some family tree research while I am there. Any tips from anyone would be appreciated. Are there any Bread and Breakfasts there? We have lots of family who live there, but thought I would check for other options. My parents and family members laugh when I talk about renting a car at DuBois. Do I have to fly into State College in order to get a decent rental car? Thanks, Doreen (Whitaker-Norris) Sexton ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. 3. Hi Amy and Beverly, Thank you for the additional information. I don't know as much as I'd like to about American genealogical research, so all this information is valuable to me. I appreciate it! If anyone is interested, I have some information on these families who lived in DuBois, Sandy Township, and Brady Township: SWANSON, KESSLER, WALBORN / WALBURN, FRANTZ, SALADA, and REASINGER / RISSINGER. 2. Amy E. K. Arner
    3. Rhonda, There are a couple ways to look for a death date: 1. Look for a probate file for your ancestor. There is usually a statement about when and where the decedent died. In PA, probate files are held by the county Register of Wills. 2. Determine if a local library or historical society has an obituary index for the relevant time frame. The DuBois Area Historical Society and the Clearfield County Historical Society both have an obit index, although I don't know what years are included. 3. Search city directories to see when your ancestor disappears from the listing. Some directories have a section that lists all of the people who died during the previous year. The DuBois Historical Society has a collection of DuBois city directories, including most years between 1910 and 1920. Good luck! Amy Arner At 09:05 AM 3/23/2007, you wrote: >Hi Jim, > >Thanks! 3. Ah, never mind, I just solved my problem! I called the courthouse and they suggested I check with the Wills department to see if he had an estate. Well, he did and the will was recorded there, and I found a death date for him! I also ordered a copy of the will for my own reference, and now I have a date to send to the PVR Department and it won't cost so much. Yay! Thanks, Rhonda R wrote: > Hi Jim, > > Thanks! 3. Hello Rhoda, There might be another possibility to finding the death date. DuBois Public Library has obituaries, but unfortunately they are not indexed. However, they do have some listings for burials. Ask the librarian there if she would look. I'm pretty sure there is a website with an email address there. Good luck, Bev in Calif. ----- Original Message ----- From: "R" <lilswedeheart@yahoo.com> To: <paclearf@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 23, 2007 7:05 AM Subject: Re: [PACLEARF] Finding Death Information in DuBois > Hi Jim, > > Thanks! 3. Hi Jim, Thanks! I know they charge more if you don't know the exact date, about $25 additional. Is it possible that there is another way to find the death date before applying at PVR? 3. Hi! I am looking to find death information on one of my ancestors, (John) Isaac FRANTZ, who was still alive in DuBois in the 1910 census at age 91. The 1900 census says he was born in PA in Jun 1818. I am at a brick wall as to who his parents were and was hoping a death certificate would tell me. Not sure if the early death certificates do say that. I know he died between 1910 and 1920. Is there any resource I can check to find out exactly when? Thank you so much! Rhonda Brockway,PA
