RW/Ancestry
Hi all, No more discussion on Rootsweb/Ancestry please..... If you want to keep up with what is happening at Rootsweb, visit http://blogs.rootsweb.com/newsroom/ I'm moderating the list for a little while so that no more messages come through about RW/Ancestry. Thanks! Nathan
Nothing will be dismantled. Changes that we don't know about are being made and eventually you will find that when you try and use a feature you will find yourself locked out. A message will appear asking you for your credit card number or you will be sent to Ancestry. Apparently Ancestry has a new owner and they charged my account automatically to pay for another year without my consent. The other owner always called ahead. In the new infromation I discover that there is no refund if you cancel before a year is up. I was checking my VISA account and saw $150 plus drawn out by Abcestry, with no previous OK. The Mormon Church owns MANY private enterprises and controls significant amounts of the food production industry in this country, as well as media outlets, banks, etc. They have long been the owners of Ancestry.com. I don't know if the most recent sale changed that, but I think it is highly unlikely. ----- Original Message ----- From: <themillergroup2@comcast.net> To: <paclearf@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 28, 2007 8:08 AM Subject: Re: [PACLEARF] Parent company of Ancestry.com, RootsWeb.com and others > All of those mentioned are NOT owned by the Mormon church. I agree with Shirley. Furthermore, I received postcard notification that my subscription was coming to an end. If I wanted to cancel, there was a number to call before a deadline. If I wanted to continue to use their service, I had only to wait for the charge to my credit card. If I did not have Ancestry, I would not be able to do research in the Midwest -- even in Clearfield County, and I live an hour or so away. I wouldn't be so quick to dis Ancestry. Ancestry does automatically renew memberships like many mag., etc. Supposed to be for our convenience. We just need to know when our time is up & call to cancel at least two week before it runs out... make sure you tell them not to "cancel immediately" BUT to do it on your last day. I live in FL and can research 24 hrs a day "in PJs" if I'd like. I think the cost of Ancestry is high ..until I think that it would cost me more than that for gas to drive up there once~~ So I personally wouldn't boycott them. They have tons of info that I can read, print etc in the comfort of my home. For less than a dollar a day. People spend more than that on soda, coffee or cigs. in a day. Often Ancestry gives free trials for a week or more. I'm their biggest fan!!!!!!! Shirley ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Rhonda, You are quite welcome. I always check, or try to, when a county was formed or township, and from what it was created from. Sandy township was formed from Brady and Huston townships in 1878. DuBois formed from Sandy township and incorporated as a borough 11 January 1881. It originally named Rumbarger and laid out in 1872 by John Rumbarger. Source: Caldwell's Clearfield County Atlas, published 1878, page 75. Note that this is not the full title.
