Answered my own question. Live and learn, I guess. >From http://www.taph.com/ taphophilia (taf′ō-fil′ē-ă) ORIGIN: >From the Greek words taphos, meaning "tomb" or "sepulcher" and philia, meaning "attraction or affinity to something, in particular the love or obsession with something" DEFINITION: 1. An excessive interest in graves and cemeteries. 2. A love or fondness for funerals, graves, and cemeteries. 3. In psychiatry, a morbid attraction to graves and cemeteries -----Original Message----- From: paclearf-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:paclearf-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jocelynn Knight Sent: Wednesday, August 15, 2007 9:42 AM To: ellisrn@earthlink.net; paclearf@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PACLEARF] Veteran Markers I can't find this word or any version of it in my dictionary. Philipsburg is not in both Clearfield and Centre counties.?This is a missconception.?When you cross the county line to the south the town is Chester Hill and is in Decatur Twp in Clearfield County.?Philipsburg is on the county line but in Centre County only.? At this point the border between Center County and Clearfield Counties is the Moshannon Creek. There was also a newspaper in Philipsburg called the Philipsburg Daily Record, during the 1940's, and 1950's. I do not remember when this newspaper was started and when it stoped being produced. I believe there are copies in the Historical Library in Bellefonte as well as in the Philipsburg Historical Society in Philipsburg. There is also e-mail contact also with the Historical Library in Bellefonte. Com they are still in business and may have files. The Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw in Clearfield has a nice genealogy section and helpful people. Also Clearfield has a historical society which is accessible by e-mail. I do not know what they charge for lookups, but they do say they have people who will do them. Another way is to contact the Centre County Historical Society in Bellefonte, Pa. Philipsburg is actually in both counties. If your people were into Clearfield County before 1830 or so chances are good that they lived in Centre County for a time and had relatives there.
