I find myself stumped in my search for an ancestor who left Lancaster county and relocated in Clearfield County and am hoping someone might be able to help. Sarah Ann Gable Hall married James Hughes of Morris Twp, Clearfield County about 1860. It was her second marriage, having been previously married to James Hall in Lancaster County in 1852. I would be very grateful if someone could find something on this marriage or any mention of James Hughes in the above book? Thanks, Tom Civitello, San Pablo, CA

    2. In a message dated 9/13/2007 11:26:12 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, jt@traceyaz.com writes: As I said in previous email about Brisbin being on one side of the 400 foot hill, and Houtzdale is on the opposite side of that hill, this church is at the very top of that hill on the left before you go over the hill into Brisbin. Houtzdale is a little larger in population than Brisbin, but anyone in town could tell you where exactly this cemetery is if you stop to ask while there. I may be mistaken BUT I think there is more than one cemetery in Brisbin. They all run together. We were there two years ago. There are graves on both side of Route 153. Some of my husband's relatives from Christ the King Church are buried there. Seems to me there were two different Christ the King Church cemeteries there; and, we were looking in the wrong one first. It was cold & rainy that day so we didn't stay long. (We drove around the church area first looking for the cemetery; and ask someone there where it was located.) Hope this helps. 3. I'm not familiar with the Ross Cemetery in Centre County, but to answer your question about going to Centre County from Clearfield County when you are at the Brisbin and Houtzdale Cemeteries, yes, you could get to all three in one day I would think. The dividing line between Centre Co. and Clearfield Co. is at Philipsburg which is shown on that map I sent the link. You would take Rt 322 and Rt 220 to State College, then pick up the Route 26 south from State College that is shown in the 'Directions' below. It's about 10 miles from Brisbin to Philipsburg, and then about 25 miles from Philipsburg to State College. http://www.rootsweb.com/~pacentre/graves.htm Centre County, PA Graveyards ROSS Ferguson Township. Directions: Take Route 26 south from State College. At intersection of Routes 26 and 45 in Pine Grove Mills, take Route 45 West 6.2 miles. Road sign for Pennsylvania Furnace, turn right. Go 3.6 miles. Ross United Methodist Church sits on a hill on the left, cemetery is adjacent to Church. Centre County Library Reference: Spangler Book 62, pgs. 41-45. 3. Search results for "St Lawrence Cemetery," Link: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=St+Lawrence+Cemetery,+Houtz dale,+PA&ie=UTF8&z=14&om=1 Christ the King Church 123 Good St, Houtzdale, PA (814) 378-7653 According to this Google Map search, St Lawrence Cemetery is at this Christ the King Church. I remember walking past this church at least once a week while I lived in Brisbin until I was 12, and my visits back there since, I don't have an exact memory of the cemetery but I've always thought it is where it is shown on this map. Too bad this map doesn't show this cemetery the same way the Brisbin map shows the IOOF one. As I said in previous email about Brisbin being on one side of the 400 foot hill, and Houtzdale is on the opposite side of that hill, this church is at the very top of that hill on the left before you go over the hill into Brisbin. Houtzdale is a little larger in population than Brisbin, but anyone in town could tell you where exactly this cemetery is if you stop to ask while there. Also note what it says on this link "Complete cemetery records for St. Lawrence do not exist." However you could call the Christ the King Church phone number listed above to inquire. 3. >From I80 , Swoop Street with the city of Brisbin on Map Quest #1 [1 - 30] says from Rt 53 you will run right onto Swoop Street. It then says Swoop Street turns into Coal Street. Is this cemetery on Swoop Street? What is near it? Is it easy to get to or is it a hidden cemetery & would it be on the right or left hand side coming from Rt 53? 1.. [324-355] Swoope St ----- Original Message ----- From: "JTracey" <jt@traceyaz.com> Brisbin is on the opposite side of the 400 foot hill from Houtzdale. The cemetery is the IOOF (International Order of Oddfellows) as you are going out of town up the hill on Swoope St. that is the main road through this small town of population of about 400.
