Sincere thanks to Kay, Claire, Kathy and Jocelynn for your help with my lookup request for immigrant ancestor Sophia Haney! It looks like Jocelynn found a match on the ship "State of Georgia" (Glagow to NY), 15 Aug 1883. I am most grateful for all the help and suggestions! Luann
I have a CD from family tree which is supposed to contain Immigration Lists Index 1500-1900 and I find nothing. The ones on Ancestry have arrived on 8-27-1922, with the one being 39 yr old, 5' 7" & 148 lbs. There are old records at the courthouse in Clearfield cause I looked for someone when I was there for when they got their citizenship. Have you tried the other spellings of Haney which I cannot rem right now? Have you tried the Ellis Island or Castle Garden records. Go to www.ellisisland.org. or www.castlegarden.org. Castle Garden was the port of entry before Ellis Island. Hope you find what you are looking far. Sofar Haney is listed on the Ellis Island records. A search of the index turned up two entries for the name "Sofar Haney". .... which I hope is my elusive "Sophia HANEY" If anyone can access the passenger list page and share the details with me, I would be most grateful. My Sophia HANEY left Scotland in 1883 to join husband John HANEY. By 1900 John, Sophia and 3 kids "born in PA" are living in Clearfield Co. Earliest child was born 1884 so I believe Sophia immigrated in late 1883 (May thru Dec.) Thanks in advance for any help! Not only do I think its identity theft in the waiting. But for me being a funeral director a waste of paper everytime I request a death certificate for a family, sending in my ID. And the other thing on the request form that is stupid is why do you want a death certificate, just one time I would like to put, because I want the freaking thing. Jason
I'm getting ready to send a copy of my ID off for Mifflin County death certificates. Hadn't even thought about this, but you're right. It does not seem like a very safe thing to do, but if you want the info. what else can you do? Why do they need/want IDs for people asking for death certificates that are 50+ years old? I can understand for a recent death certificate, but why for genealogy research? Mike Go to www.health.state.pa.us/vitalrecords. This is where the records are for Clearfield. Follow the directions. If you are in the Military or a Vet you can get family records free. I am not sure about parents. Otherwise the cost is 9 and 10 dollars.
